A bitter dispute over welding fumes has now escalated into a wider row over workplace culture, staff treatment and safety concerns

Six welding lecturers, supported by TU officials, visited Paul Sweeney MSP's Glasgow Constituency Offices today to raise awareness of their employers' failure to keep them safe during welding activities in their workplace.

The welding lecturers have been in dispute since November over appropriate PPE to protect them from breathing carcinogenic air, and have been on continuous strike action for 18 weeks. They have begun a series of visits to MSP's whose constituencies they live in and where their employer, City of Glasgow College, is situated.

Today they visited Paul Sweeney Labour MSP. They left information regarding the dispute and a press release detailing a letter that was sent to the First Minister by the EIS General Secretary two weeks ago, and they stood for pictures with placards highlighting their concerns over health and safety.
