Royal Holloway’s history is rooted in purpose, ethical ambition and sharp business thinking - and Jane Holloway was at the centre of it.

After marrying Thomas in 1840, Jane became the strategist behind the Holloway enterprise. She pushed for thoughtful expansion, better manufacturing standards and worked late into the night producing Holloway’s Cures with a focus on integrity and long‑term impact.

Her belief that “women are the greatest sufferers” inspired one of the era’s boldest philanthropic acts: founding Royal Holloway College to expand women’s education. With no heirs, the Holloways chose to channel their wealth into social good - a powerful example of values‑driven leadership.

For today’s business students, Jane’s legacy shows how strategy, ethics and purpose can shape decisions that outlast a lifetime.
