Our Moray SWAP team delivered its second Step into Childcare course, providing participants with the knowledge, skills, and qualifications needed to explore a career in the childcare sector.

Throughout the programme, participants achieved accredited qualifications in Childcare First Aid and Food Hygiene, while also taking part in informative sessions covering the importance of play, safeguarding, and understanding child behaviour.

As part of the course, participants visited several local childcare settings, including Little Sparkles Childminder, Earthtime Outdoor Nursery, and RAF Lossiemouth Nursery. These visits provided valuable insight into day-to-day nursery operations and the range of career opportunities available within the childcare industry.

The team will continue to support participants as they take their next steps, whether that involves applying for college courses, pursuing Modern Apprenticeships, or seeking employment within the childcare sector

It was a great afternoon yesterday as staff staff came together to celebrate the end of the year at our annual Staff BBQ.

We also awarded our much sought after Staff Awards to:
➕ Yvonne Alexander (Inspirational Lecturer), who is as the students say "sound"
➕ Julie Kinnair (Outstanding Supoort Staff Member), whose infectous spirit leaves a impact on students
➕ Ali Blackburn (Unsung Hero), who always ensures our IT problems are solved
➕ Jack Whyte (Community Impact Award), who goes above and beyond to ensure we're an active campus
➕ Kristine Duffus (Above and Beyond Award), whose dedication and commitment continues to inspire us

A huge thank you to our Seeking New Adventures group for organising the do and for the team HATA UHI Moray for the food. It was delicious as always.

We had a great few days playing host to the DYW Moray Big Build Finals.

Pupils from across Moray showcased their creativity, building impressive structures using recycled materials. Alongside presenting their ideas to judges, they also took part in hands-on STEM workshops throughout the day with the winning school in each category receives the Moray Big Build Challenge Trophy.

Many thanks to the judges from Balfour Beatty, Fairhurst, Leiths Group, Robertsons Construction Northern and Tulloch of Cummingston who took part on both days.

Well done to all the schools who took part and a special congratulations to our winners, including Craigellachie Primary, Greenwards Primary and Keith Grammar.

A huge congrats to our Beechtree Restaurant on receiving an Outstanding Achievement at the Scottish Hospitality Awards. Nominated in the Restaurant of the Year category, the achievement marks the end of a great year.
They may not have won but they are winners to us!

Huge congratulations to Jim, who always goes above and beyond for our students and apprentices.

Congratulations to Jim Mackinnon, Deputy Head of Curriculum – Construction at UHI Moray, who was awarded the SNIPEF Merit Award.

Jim has devoted more than five decades to the plumbing industry. He has made an outstanding contribution not only through practical trade experience but also through education, mentorship, and the development of future generations entering the profession.

As he couldn’t attend the SNIPEF AGM in Dundee, the award was presented by RTO Neil Foxcroft.

A truly well-deserved recognition! 👏

Is it a kitchen in a garden… or a garden in a kitchen?

It was a gold metal for lecturer, Nick’s show garden at the North Scotland Garden Show last weekend.

Called the ‘Kitchen Garden’, the whimsical design challenged audiences to to look at our outdoor spaces a little differently and remember that gardens can be as inspiring as they are productive. Even the washing machine was showcasing edible greenery.
