The final third year expediton of the 25-26 academic year is in Madeira, currently trekking across the island before dropping down to the coast to explore some surf locations. Its been pretty misty up in the hills, and so opportunities to gauge the current swell and surf conditions have been limited!

Over the past two decades, our graduates have gone on to build incredible careers across the world - from outdoor education and guiding to sustainability, leadership and beyond.

This week, 3rd year School of Adventure Studies UHI students, Sam and Eli, are heading off on an international expedition to Japan as part of their studies ✈️🌍

Their expedition will take them to one of Japan’s most biologically diverse and culturally rich islands, where they’ll explore the relationship between people, place, and time through immersive, place-based learning. The experience connects directly with their studies in adventure tourism, environmental understanding, and cultural perspectives of landscape.

Throughout their time abroad, they’ll be taking part in field-based learning, cultural experiences, and reflective practice - developing skills and insights that go beyond the classroom and into real-world adventure contexts.

We are looking forward to following their journey and sharing insights from their experience, offering a glimpse into what international expeditions and adventure learning can look like as part of the programme.
