My lovely brother wrote this and I had to share.
I wrote this homage to my freedom many years ago, when my Private Pilots License was valid (now retired). I was inspired by the song “I wish I knew how it felt to be free” sung by so many artists these days.
_______________
There’s something magical about sitting in the cockpit of a small aeroplane, especially a Cessna. It may look simple to some, just a panel of instruments, a yoke, and a view, but to us who dream, it’s everything.
This isn’t just a seat with buttons and gauges. This is a front-row view of the sky to freedom. It's the place where the noise of the world fades away, and all that remains is purpose, focus, and flight. For many of us, the dream of becoming a pilot didn’t start with our hands on the controls. It started with our hearts looking up at the sky, wondering what it felt like to break free from gravity and rise.
And then one day, we climb into that cockpit. Nervous. Excited. Determined. And as the engine roars to life and the wheels leave the ground, something incredible happens: our dreams stop being mere ideas and become reality.
Every switch we flip, every manoeuvre we learn, every soft landing we make, we’re not just flying. We’re growing. We’re pushing past limits, rising above doubts, and proving that with passion and perseverance, anything is possible.
So for every aspiring pilot looking at the sky today, I want to say this: your dream is valid. Your passion is powerful. And one day, you’ll sit in that cockpit and realise that it was never just about flying. It was about taking control of your life, your future, your dream.
Because up here, in this cockpit, you’re not just a pilot, you’re the captain of your destiny.
