We attract one of the largest international student bodies in Scottish further education with over 1,000 learners attending from around 130 countries worldwide. Broadcasting students got an inside track on the industry when journalist and broadcaster Kirsty Wark joined us at City of Glasgow College 🎥

Kirsty spoke about the changing broadcasting landscape, opportunities in Glasgow and Scotland, and how students can prepare now for successful careers in television and journalism.

BA Television student Ash Anderson described Kirsty as having “an infectious passion for the industry” and praised the advice and time she gave to students.

A brilliant opportunity to learn directly from one of Scotland’s most experienced broadcasters.

City talent comes full circle!

It was great to see two generations of City talent come together this week, as Illustration and Design Practice student Iona Bourne handed over her Commonwealth Games-inspired print to Scottish athlete and City of Glasgow College alumna Jemma Reekie.

Jemma, who went on to represent Scotland and Great Britain at the highest level, bought Iona’s work for her own collection after seeing the print. It is a lovely example of the connections that can grow from our College, bringing together alumni through their shared experience of City.

Jemma was just back from winning the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile in New York, covering the one-mile road course down Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue in 4:13.8. It was a new women’s course record and her third victory in the race, following wins in 2021 and 2023.

Our Painting and Decorating apprentices have been putting their skills to work on a very special upcoming episode of DIY SOS, helping transform a family home into a safe and accessible space.

Working alongside professional tradespeople and the DIY SOS team, they gained real hands-on experience while helping make a genuine difference to a family. Look out for them on screen next week - 22 September!
