The student-led Strategy and Security Society hosts the following event on "Security, IR & Career Paths" -- join them!
3S is very excited to invite you to a three-part event series on 29th and 30th of April, focusing on career paths for Security and IR students and graduates! They will be hosting a number of speakers, professionals and UoG alumni, who will talk about their careers to date, their professional fields and give advice to students on employability, skills and job-hunting.
Part One: Thursday 29/4, 15:00 (UK Time)
Dr. Ana Alecsandru will provide insights on her professional field, regarding Nuclear Policy. Dr. Alecsandru is a Research Fellow in the Proliferation and Nuclear Programme at RUSI and project lead on UK PONI, a cross-generational network which encourages young scholars and professionals to engage with established experts on contemporary nuclear issues. Her research interests include nuclear arms control, as well as the impact of emerging technologies on arms control. Prior to joining RUSI, she worked in nuclear policy and research at Chatham House and the University of Birmingham. She has also worked for the Arms Control, Disarmament and WMD Non-Proliferation Centre at NATO HQ in Brussels and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs in New York. She was awarded her PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2020. Her dissertation focused on the relationship between trust and verification in nuclear arms control negotiations between the United States and Russia.

Part Two: Thursday 29/4, 17:00 (UK Time)
Ms. Chloe Teevan will talk about her career in the field of Foreign Policy. Ms. Teevan is an EU Foreign Affairs analyst working with the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM). Her work focuses on the EU's relations with the African Union and the Maghreb countries, the impact of geopolitics on development policy and more recently on the evolving role of digital in EU foreign and development policy. She has previously worked with the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) and spent two years working with a cultural foundation in Cairo. She has published with outlets including the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Carnegie’s “Sada”, Middle East Eye, IEMed and spoken on BBC World News, AlJazeera, France 24 and others. She holds a MA from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a BA from Trinity College Dublin.
Dr. Jack Harding will focus on Political Risk and will also share his recent experience on joining the Civil Service. Dr. Harding received his doctorate in International Relations from the University of Glasgow; his thesis examined cultural preferences for domestic military deployments in Britain and France. He has ten years of experience in the private sector as a political risk analyst, most recently as the Head of Political Risk for award-winning FinTech company, Coriolis Technologies. Dr. Harding will soon be transferring from the private sector into the civil service, taking up a new role with the Ministry of Defence.
UoG alumnus Abel Vroegop will share his experience on bridging the gap between graduation and getting started in the job market. Abel, our Society’s first President, graduated last year with a Master’s degree in Global Security. He has recently embarked on an internship at the Hague Security Delta, specializing in International Business Stimulation. He is also studying for his second Master’s in Crisis and Security Management at Leiden University.

Part Three: Friday 30/4, 17:00 (UK Time)
Mr. Harshad Kamble will cover the field of Information Security. Mr. Harshad Kamble has over 28 years of experience in the information technology industry in IT Operations, Service Delivery, Program Management, Project Management, Security Projects, Infrastructure Projects. His experience spans across the following industries: Estate, Media, Financial Services, Retail, Manufacturing, FMCG, Healthcare, Automotive, Aerospace, Scientific, Information Technology and Trading. Some of the organisations he has worked for and consulted include EY, Deloitte, Diageo, Vodafone, Siemens, Countrywide, EuroPackaging, Cepac, Hong Kong Telecom, Napier Turbochargers, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, JP Morgan Chase, Zambezi Paper Mills.
Mr. Joshua Hutchinson will focus on the Security Sector, with special references to the Maritime Industry. Mr. Hutchinson is General Manager at ARX Mouldings. A former Royal Marine Commando who, following arduous tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, has spent the last decade working in the Security Sector for Government Bodies and, more recently, in the Maritime Industry. He is currently a Trustee for the Maritime Sector’s oldest charity, the Sailors’ Society, and a General Manager supporting global security operations for Oil Majors and leading Ship Operators.
UoG alumnus Jacopo Grande will talk about job-hunting after graduation, reaching out to companies, and the power of networking. Jacopo has been the first Project Manager of the Society. After graduating with an MSc in Global Security in 2020, he has started his journey to find the right career path and understands the concern of job hunting first-hand. According to Jacopo, there are many opportunities out there and there is always an appropriate Strategy that one can apply!
