Strath SEDS StrathSEDS is a society for students of the University of Strathclyde interested in space

The Strathclyde Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (StrathSEDS) is an engineering/science-based society for undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Strathclyde. The society aims to be working on one large space engineering project throughout each academic semester along while running other, smaller projects for members to get involved in. Formed in 2011, StrathSEDS has since developed the foundations for Scotland's first university satellite programme (StrathSat-R) which was successfully launched on a sounding rocket by the European Space Agency. We are also in the process of designing, building and testing a Pulsed Plasma Thruster (PPT). StrathSEDS works collaboratively with the university's research centres, such as the Advanced Space Concepts Laboratory, and offers great opportunities for academic projects to be carried out within StrathSEDS.

This Thursday (15/10/26) we are hosting an Emergency General Meeting to elect some positions that are currently available. 🤩

Mechanical Lead: They oversee their teams, ensure proper documentation, and contribute to the overall success of the society’s projects. These roles involve technical expertise, project management, inter-team communication, and recruitment to sustain an efficient, well-functioning team.

Social Convenor: responsible for fostering community engagement, promoting society activities, and maintaining StrathSEDS’ public image. This role includes managing social events, overseeing social media presence, and ensuring that both members and external audiences stay informed about StrathSEDS activities.

💫 Join us for our week 4 sessions!

Later today, we will be hosting our Tuesday session in LT420. Our President, Ewan, will be leading a session about DRAMA 4 satellites. This follows their time spent at the ESA - European Space Agency training course in Belgium a few weeks ago! 🛰️

On Thursday, we will have be hosting an EGM to elect some new committee positions, and then a project based skill session in the three sub-teams. Even if you don’t have experience, come along to learn the ropes! ⚡️

Come join us for our rocket launch next Tuesday at 6pm! 🚀

This will take place at the Strathclyde Playing Fields - 15 Ave End Rd, Millerston, Glasgow G33 6ND. It is accessible via train (Robroyston Station) or bus (19).

Later today, we will be hosting our Tuesday session in LT420. Here you can meet the team, ask questions, and participate in a rocket building session hosted by Alice and Chloe. This will be followed by a trip to Bar Home !🍻

🌟 Ewan is the President of StrathSEDS, and is our beloved leader. They work on production of our projects, engaging with the university, managing the committee; developing of the society with ambition and dedication.

Role: Technical Lead
Year: Fourth
Degree: Mechanical Engineering

🌟Alice is our newly elected technical lead, as this is the first year of the role. She endeavours to make the rocket and other projects the best they can possibly be. As supervisor the sub-team leads, Alice has a hands on role in the design, development and production of the rocket.

🌟 Chloe is our treasurer, who works incredibly hard to keep our income flowing. She applies for funding, grants and sponsorships from the University. She is reliable and manages to keep our society financially stable.

🌟Willem is our administrative officer, and he is a reliable right-hand man. His main role is to organise and take the minutes of meetings (such as the AGM), help other members of the society, and to check, correct and write correspondence.
