Groundings

Groundings Groundings is an undergraduate, peer-reviewed journal in the arts, humanities, and social sciences published by the Glasgow University Union.

Groundings is an academic journal, run by undergraduates for undergraduates, in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. We offer a rare opportunity for undergraduate students at Glasgow to have their work published, or to participate in the production and management of an academic journal. Volumes are published annually, each with a specific theme selected by that year's Editorial Board. Submis

sions of up to 4,000 words are accepted from any subject in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Successful submissions are selected through an anonymous peer-review process, after which the chosen authors then work one-to-one with a member of the Editorial Board to revise their article before publication. Groundings is published by Glasgow University Union, managed by the Libraries Convener, and serves to showcase the very best of Glasgow's academic writing. We receive financial backing from the University of Glasgow Chancellor's Fund and GUSRC, and support from an academic Advisory Board. Information on how to submit an article and/or how to apply to join the Editorial Board will be made available during term-time.

'UPHEAVAL':

Upheaval is a constant, omnipotent presence and experience: now more so than ever.

Each of us has been subject to the disorientating, transformative effects of upheaval, and its power continues to characterise academic, social, and political discourses. Our perceptions of political systems and players have irrevocably altered, as has our engagement with the materials of environment, individuality, and power. How do we reconcile our old understandings with those upheaved? Are our philosophical, literary, and artistic experiences changing and shaping under a new reality? How can we have agency in a world we no longer understand? Is change happening too fast for us to remain firm to any individual identities? And what power do we have, if any, to control, augment, or even stop upheaval?
