Today, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on the inspiring journey of our very own Dr Sofiat Olaosebikan.

Sofiat joined the University of Glasgow as a PhD student, and 10 years on, she is now a lecturer, inspiring the next generation through her teaching, research and outreach work. Through her commitment to empowering young Africans with computing skills, she is helping to create new opportunities and inspire future generations.

Her journey is a wonderful testament to the power of believing in yourself, embracing opportunities and staying committed to your dreams.

Congratulations on 10 incredible years, Sofiat! We’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved and the journey you’ve taken from student to lecturer. We can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes you. A true UofG world changer! 🎉

5 fun facts you may not know about the Glasgow Subway:
1. The Glasgow subway is the third-oldest underground railway!
2. The Glasgow subway runs in a loop. No matter which direction you take, you’ll eventually arrive at your stop!
3. In 2024, the old subway trains were officially retired. But if you visit the Riverside Museum, you’ll see carriage number 128 on display
4. A popular nickname for the Glasgow subway is the “Clockwork Orange”
5. You can easily get to the main UofG campus by taking the subway to Hillhead Station! From there it is less than a 10-minute walk
