Today marks the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice.
At 11am, on the eleventh day of November 1918 after four years of conflict, the guns fell silent and the First World War was at an end.

More destructive than any war that was fought before it, the Great War claimed the lives of close to 150,000 soldiers from Scotland- 18,000 of whom came from Glasgow.

They, along with the many others from Glasgow who sadly lost their lives in subsequent conflict including the Second World War, will be honoured with the Rembrance Day service at the Glasgow Cenotaph laster today.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

💥📢 AGM AND COMMITTEE POSITIONS💥📢

Hi guys,

So as you may or may not know, the current committee will all soon be coming to the end of their time at the University of Strathclyde. This means there will be loads of committee positions up for grabs for any of you wanting to take the society forward next year (for an idea of positions please see the constitution document on the page)

If you would like to be part of this fun and vibrant society, please join us for the AGM on 4th May at 5pm in the Union (Level 10 open space area)
You can just come to join or even celebrate with the departing committee as we will soon be graduating. For those of you who wish to be part of next years committee, please bring a short speech that gives us an idea of who you are and how you would be good for the job.

Finally on a personal note, this society has been great fun to set up and I really hope it has in some way provided a space for students of history to socialise and vent concerns. I’ve really enjoyed being your president and I can’t wait to see where the society will end up next year

-Rebecca
(President)

**PARTICIPANTS NEEDED**

An MSc Marketing student at the University of Strathclyde is looking to interview people for their project. For their major project they are helping the Glasgow Mediaeval Trust with their marketing plan for the St Mungo's Festival 2019, which celebrates the medieval history of Glasgow.

They need to conduct interviews and focus groups with young people who have not attended the St Mungo's Festival before but have an interest in the subject. They want to understand what events would be attractive for them for next year's programme. They need 5-6 individuals for a focus group some time in the middle of April.

If you are interested in taking part please email [email protected]

Hi guys

We've received a message from a Master's Student from the University of Amsterdam who is looking to conduct some interviews with people who support the Monarchy in Scotland. I've attached his message for you all to read and his email address so feel free to get in touch and earn yourself some good Karma for when it comes time to conduct your own research!!

Hello, I am a masters student in sociology at the University of Amsterdam. My thesis is on the Monarchy in the U.K. I'm looking for supporters of the Royal Family in Scotland to take part in an interview. Interviews will be conducted in the first two weeks of April. They will last between 45-60 minutes, and are very informal. I'm looking to have more of a discussion with people as opposed to just asking people lots of questions. I'm looking to speak to 15-20 people. Participation would be greatly appreciated and can be rewarded over wine, beer, coffee, tea etc during the interview. If you are interested, please email me at [email protected]
