🏆🏆🏆A huge congratulations to Sudipta Roy, Professor of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Strathclyde, FIChemE, FIMF who was recently the recipient of the Pietro L. Cavallotti Award (12th June 2026), which was established in the memory of late Professor Pietro Luigi Cavalotti (1938-2017). It was presented by Dr. Habil. Wolfgang Hansal, President of The European Academy of Surface Technology. The award recognises Achievements in Pulse Plating, a Dynamic method of Electrochemical Deposition. She joins J.-Cl. Puippe (2018), W. Paatsch (2020), P. Leisner (2022) and J. Taylor (2024), who have contributed to the development of engineering and technology involving current pulses. Prof. Roy has contributed towards the fundamental understanding of pulse plating processes, the effect of galvanic corrosion during alloy deposition, as well as using these phenomena to produce metallic and modulated materials for the fabrication of micro- and opto-electronic products. She joined Strathclyde University in 2015 as Head of Department, and established the Electrochemical Engineering Group which she led for a number of years. At Strathclyde, her pulse plating work focused on elucidating processes occurring during pulsed metal deposition from Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES), where reactions, often not observed in aqueous media became prominent. She is a committed educator and researcher, and is a lead author of the monograph Pulse Plating (ISBN: 978-3874802659, 2012).
