🏛️ Yesterday in Westminster, the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh were delighted to jointly host parliamentarians, industry leaders and partners to discuss the development of the Scottish Health and Biomedical Institute (SHBI).

🤝 Bringing together members of our Parliamentary Friends of the University of Glasgow, colleagues and MPs from Edinburgh, and valued partners from Cancer Research UK and AstraZeneca, the dinner provided an opportunity to explore how Scotland can build on its world-leading strengths in health, biomedical research, data science and innovation.

🔬 SHBI represents an ambitious vision for Scotland's future: a nationally connected research and innovation platform designed to accelerate the translation of scientific discovery into better health outcomes, attract global talent and investment, and strengthen the UK's position as a life sciences powerhouse. The opportunity is significant.

💙 This has the potential to tackle some of Scotland's most persistent health inequalities by driving research, innovation and clinical advances that improve outcomes in the communities facing the greatest burden of poor health.

👏 Thank you to everyone who joined us for a thoughtful and constructive discussion about how universities, government, the NHS and industry can work together to tackle health inequalities, drive economic growth and deliver lasting public benefit.

🏆 MVLS celebrates outstanding results in the latest Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027 subject rankings! 🎉

We’re delighted to celebrate the achievements of colleagues across the University of Glasgow’s College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, with three subjects retaining their 1st-place rankings and two more rising to 1st place! 🙌

A fantastic achievement that reflects the dedication, expertise and hard work of our staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

💡 We've lit up our Gilbert Scott tower in blue this weekend and tonight to mark , a day to raise awareness of the impact of arthritis and musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.

🔬 Professor Iain McInnes, Vice Principal, Head of MVLS and rheumatology expert, said: "World Arthritis Day is an opportunity to recognise the impact that inflammatory arthritis has on millions of lives worldwide. Here at the University of Glasgow, we have a long history of pioneering research into the causes, treatment and prevention of these conditions."

👧 Dr Eve Smith, Clinical Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Rheumatology, School of Infection and Immunity, said: "Arthritis is often thought of as an adult condition, but it affects children too. In children and young people, it is called Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). JIA causes joint pain, stiffness, swelling and fatigue, and can have a significant impact on a child's ability to play, learn, take part in sport and simply enjoy being a child."

📺 Dr Smith will appear on STV News tonight at 6pm to discuss World Arthritis Day.

💚 Everyone’s experience is different. By listening without judgement, challenging stigma and helping people access appropriate support, we can all play a part in creating a more understanding and supportive society.

🌎 The School of Health and Wellbeing Infant Mental Health team have been in Toronto this week at the World Association for Infant Mental Health Congress. 🧠

🎓 They have been busy promoting the MSc programme, presenting at workforce training sessions and supporting an MSc student poster presentation. 👏
