The Department of Physics at the University of Strathclyde is in the centre of Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, a country of proud scientific traditions and outstanding natural beauty. The department traces its history back to 1796, when John Anderson, Professor of Natural Philosophy at Glasgow University, left a legacy to found 'a place of useful learning' in Glasgow. The department is a me

mber of the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA) and shares postgraduate teaching with all the Scottish physics departments. The research conducted by the department is divided into three broad areas: nanoscience, optics and plasmas. There are a broad range of exciting projects at the forefront of physics research: pure, interdisciplinary, partnerships with national labs and work with near-term practical application.
