Centre for the Study of Perceptual Experience CSPE at the University of Glasgow, facilitates analytical philosophical and empirical research into perception.

Our researchers often work in an interdisciplinary manner drawing on philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, psychiatry, and human–computer interaction. Our personnel conduct and publish research, often based on the conferences, workshops, reading groups that we organise. We have research links to many research groups in the UK, Europe and North America working on the nature of perception and we fre

We are advertising a Research Associate job in Analytic Philosophy of Mind, Empirical Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychiatry, or Cognitive Anthropology.

The post is to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, led by Professor Joseph Webster, which includes Fiona Macpherson, on the UKRI-funded project Exploring the Grey Zone: A Biopsychosocial Approach to Religious Delusions and Conspiracy Beliefs.

Candidates should have an interest in psychosis, delusional ideation, conspiracism, belief, or related topics. Candidates willing to apply their previous knowledge or research to these topics in a creative and thoughtful way will also be considered.

The position is at Cambridge. It is a fixed-term position for 21 months, starting 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. Closing Date: Monday 27 July 2026.

We continue to update The Illusions Index. We've now added the fascinating, and relvatively newly discovered, Curvature Blindness Illusion—an illusion in which curved lines appear straight. A striking reminder that what we seem to see is not always what is there.
