And now to introduce our next team - Zainab and Wurdaan!

Good luck to you both🍀🍀

Zainab has been debating since she was born. Now you may object she only joined Scottish debating officially 8 years ago, but when you realise Zainab has been grappling with topics like “This house would run away from home ”, “THW do their homework”, “THW drink orange juice”, you realise she’s been in the game far longer than you expect.

She has quite a lot of achievements including winning a lot of Scottish competitions (Edcup, Edcup, Scottish pre-EUDC) and chairing a lot of stuff (just pick a city she’s probably chaired something there). She has also been to Euros before and her results have been to be a point off breaking, and be many points off of breaking. This year she hopes to do better and to avoid regretting her decision to not judge. I have no lore of Zainab as we do not talk very much.

Bio written by Wurdaan

I’m sure Wurdaan is also a very good debater and friend but all Zainab sent me was…

“We’re hot and we’re cold, we’re yes and we’re no, we’re in and we’re out, we’re Zainab and Wurdown”

So make of that what you will everyone…

Now to introduce Cyrus and Josh - we wish you all the best🏆

These two have certainly built up a reputation for themselves…

“The kind of guys that would make your mom say ‘what sweet young gentlemen.’” -Esmé Thornhill-Davis

“The greatest debaters in a generation and more” - Tom Milling

“They taught me everything I know” - Aymaan Sheikh

“Don’t know if I want them or want to be them” - Zainab Sardar

“Now those are two members I don’t mind seeing” -Eoghan Connolly

“Outfit variety to die for!” - Wurdaan Kashif

“They’re firsting” - judges everywhere

“And the debate could rage on if you like. But it is hard to escape the supposition that he has rendered himself today, the greatest of all time.” -Peter Drury, on Josh’s 79.4 average at Gurgaon

Presenting our next team for Euros 2026!

We wish Tom and Aymaan the best of luck🤞

Hi we are Tom and Aymaan. We got squadwiped at the same EUDC Quarterfinal last year. I eliminated Tom at the same Edinburgh Cup semifinal last year. At the last Scottish Mace, we both lost. All of this was in separate teams, so it seems the trials judges wanted to concentrate the losers into one team.

Our prep for Euros has involved running a marathon, graduating, and not debating.

Yes, we can be good at debating sometimes.
No, we will not ‘just kiss already’.

Introducing our first speaker team for EUDC 2026!

Good luck Luyanda and Ruby🍀🏆

Sharp speeches, immaculate vibes and a love for saying “so, no?”; could it be Luyanda Maldiwa?

Whether he’s delivering persuasive whip speech’s or defending his latest hot take, Luyanda does it with effortless confidence and humour. Fresh from chairing rooms at last year’s Euros, Luyanda has decided that speaking looks much easier.

Outside debating, Luyanda is best known for wandering off on nights out, or sometimes just on nights. When in rome! (We found him don’t worry). He is also responsible for the great Parmesan incident, where an innocent pasta dish became the victim of an entire pot of cheese.

Cold take: There are too many Americans in Scottish debate. The average Scottish team composition is like, English person + American person these days. Game’s so gone. Then you hear a Ruby McIntee speech and you think “Game’s so back.” With an armada of spec varying from religious medieval practices to the ins and outs of a guttering system, and a penchant for rhetoric that marries style and substance, and a rapid rate of improvement only matched by Herbert’s of lemon consumption (she once ate three in five minutes, skin and all, dm me if you want the video) Ruby seemed to be the last great Scottish hope for Edinburgh.

Sadly, Big McIntee has been lying to you. Ruby’s an undercover American, having spent many years of her childhood in the far flung land of Mamdanistan. Perhaps, it was obvious in hindsight. Her insane track record in St Andrew’s, America’s eastern most town, and a desire for debate conquest that has taken her to the Oxford WGM finals, the Trinity IV semifinals and the Amsterdam Open quarterfinals, should have probably clued us all in. Yank or otherwise, Ruby’s still the goat. IN her final act before her return to America, Dutch Euros promises to be a splendid swan song for Edinburgh i(MM)igrant 🦅

We present our judges for the European Universities Debating Championships 2026. Swipe onwards for tales of long journeys, bribery, betrayal, as well as many extended metaphors!

We wish them all the very best of luck🍀

Would you like to hear more about how out debaters get on at Euros?

Charlie’s judging achievements are sparser than they ought to be due to being institutionally clashed from half the outrounds he has broken to. He was clashed from Trinity IV’s quarters, semis, and finals, as well as Glasgow Summer Cup’s partial quarters and semis (but not the Pro-Am final panel!).

Miraculously, his clash was waived so he could panel the Grand Final, only to award the win to the only non-EUDU team. Finally, as his last bit of Euros prep, he decided to go to Split Open, where he only left the Adriatic Sea to panel a semi-final. Now backpacking to Utrecht with Zohha for two long weeks, he hopes, despite having no chance of breaking, that at this EUDC he will be institutionally clashed from every top room and outround once again.

Alex came from being the big fish in the small debate pond of the Kansas policy debate circuit to joining the ocean of British Parliamentary debate. After two years of BP he may have found his place in said BP ocean, winning York IV and breaking second at Aberdeen Open.

He also learned to accept the changing tides and began to judge tournaments as well. This has lead to panelling multiple outrounds and finals with only a year of judging experience.

When asked about the aforementioned transition to university level debate using the big fish small pond metaphor, Alex replied, “Why am I being compared to a fish?” That sums him up. He is not a fish and he is excited to be going to Euros for the first time.

Behold, back from the dead (Canada), it’s the people’s princess, your mom’s wife, Lothian buses biggest fan: Alishbaddie Irfan 🔥🔥 Some people are career judges, others career speakers but Alishba surpasses all that because she has a real career. Doing what Kim K cannot, Alishba is a certified yapper (talented lawyer) and will probably be supreme court justice of the world quite soon. She’s not afraid to admit to liking cactus fla

Come along with us to Liverpool for a debate competition…

Our Edinburgh student debaters had a very successful weekend - with all speakers and judges breaking into finals and some of our speakers winning their respective finals!

We also explored the sights of sunny Liverpool and enjoyed the city’s nightlife.

Should we share more from the debate competitions we attend?

Cool poses for debate teams! I’m sure that making everyone do this was the reason we all broke…
