Huge congratulations to Oliver Hak and George Brady! 🎹📯💫

We’re delighted that current Juniors student Oliver Hak (piano) and former Juniors student George Brady (French horn) have both secured their place in the final eight of the prestigious BBC Young Musician competition 2026. What a fantastic achievement! 👏

📺 The Quartet Finals are on BBC Four this evening at 7:30pm, and we’ll be cheering them on all the way!

Earlier this year, four of our fantastic Junior Conservatoire musicians made it through to the live auditions of BBC Young Musician 2026! 🎶

A wonderful celebration at New Cumnock Town Hall recently to mark 10 years of partnership with The King’s Foundation.

Featuring young ballet and music students who receive their specialist training at Dumfries House, one of the many highlights was the Junior Conservatoire String Orchestra’s performance of our Junior Conservatoire Patron, Patrick Doyle’s beautiful Adagio, written for His Majesty The King.

Partnerships like this are so important — creating meaningful opportunities and progressive pathways for young musicians and dancers to perform, learn and connect. 🎵🩰🎻💫

Audition Preparation Courses 2026 – DANCE 🩰

⭐️Join us on Sunday the 18th of October
for our audition preparation courses. ⭐️

We’re offering Modern Ballet and Dance Artist intensive sessions at Wallace Studios for dancers interested in applying for vocational dance courses in the future.

• Improve your audition technique – learn how to pick up choreography quickly, retain combinations and perform them confidently under pressure.

• Build confidence – learn in a supportive environment which will reduce nerves and help you feel more comfortable being watched and assessed.

• Develop performance skills – Learn how to show personality, musicality and expression rather than simply executing exercises.

• Learn audition etiquette – Lecturers will help you understand what to expect, how to present yourself, where to stand, how to behave in the room, and how to respond to corrections.

• Provides professional feedback – Experienced teachers can identify strengths and weaknesses and give you specific things to work on.

Modern Ballet – 10am – 1pm – study classical ballet and contemporary technique

Dance Artist 1.30pm – 3.30pm study jazz, commercial and contemporary technique

These courses are open to dancers in S3 an above. If you'd like to attend both courses we can offer a discount.

🎺✨ A very special day for our Juniors Brass Ensemble! EIF - Brass Fanfare: A Tribute to John Wallace

What an honour and a privilege for our young Brass musicians to be invited by Juniors Music Patron, and Edinburgh International Festival Director, Nicola Benedetti to perform at today’s EIF tribute concert for the late, great John Wallace CBE — inspirational trumpeter, composer, educator and former Principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

The evening brought together brass players from three of Scotland’s leading orchestras joining forces with The Wallace Collection, Cooperation Brass Band, Oi Musica and StAMP, in celebration of John’s extraordinary life and legacy.

John made an immeasurable contribution to Scotland’s musical landscape, both as an exceptional musician and as a passionate advocate for music education. For our young brass players to share the stage with so many outstanding musicians in his memory was an incredible experience, and one that we know John would have loved.

A huge thank you to Nicola Benedetti, the Edinburgh International Festival and everyone who made this very special performance possible.

We are delighted to celebrate the news that Patrick Doyle, Patron of the Junior Conservatoire of Music has been awarded a CBE in His Majesty The King’s Birthday Honours.

One of Scotland’s most distinguished composers, Patrick’s extraordinary contribution to music, film and the arts has inspired audiences around the world. From his acclaimed scores for Henry V, Sense and Sensibility, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Brave, and many more, his work has touched generations through its creativity, emotional depth and unmistakable musical voice.

Patrick’s connection with the Junior Conservatoire is particularly special. As a former Junior Conservatoire student himself, his journey from young musician to internationally celebrated composer serves as a powerful inspiration to the young people studying with us today. As Patron, he continues to champion and encourage the next generation of musicians, sharing his passion, experience and belief in the transformative power of music.

On behalf of everyone at the Junior Conservatoire of Music, we offer Patrick our warmest congratulations on this richly deserved honour and thank him for his continued support of young musicians and music education.
