It's Wear Red Day 🔴

As part of the "Show Racism The Red Card" anti-racism campaign, staff and students came together in support and to help raise awareness of the initiative that started back in 1996 🤝

The campaign was created to challenge racism in all of it's forms; within higher education, work, organisations and in sports ❌

Say a big hello to Neve, who joins us for this week's 👋

Neve is currently in the final year of her BA (Hons) International Business degree and has been reflecting on her time at GCU 💙

"I really like the campus because it's nice and modern - there are so many places to study. It's also really easy to commute to GCU given the fact it's only a 15 minute walk to Central Station 🚶‍♀️

"I've got my dissertation due this year and it's a lot, but I'm going to be attending one of the Learning Development Centre (LDC) sessions to help me with things like referencing. I'm also lucky that I feel like I can reach out to my lecturers and know that they'll support me 🙌

"One of my highlights from my time here was going on Exchange to Italy. I got to meet so many people and it really pushed me out my comfort zone. I would 100% recommend it to other students - it was absolutely amazing!" 🌍

We caught up with Megan to find out how she can support students and help make managing money that little bit easier 🙌

How can you help? ❔

"I can help students who are struggling with their finances and those who need help with budgeting and the cost of living. I can also help with finding cheaper deals on bills, meal planning, signposting you to other services available here at GCU and so much more."

What are you enjoying about working at GCU so far? ❔

"I love working with the students and meeting them, hopefully helping them to get a better handle on their finances and make their lives easier, basically!"

We want to hear from Glasgow Caledonian students in their second year and upwards and early career researchers with big ambitions who want to step out of their comfort zone to explore, learn, help others, and have new life experiences, locally and around the globe, all in the name of the Common Good.

The Magnusson Fund offers awards of £2,000 to £5,000 to help bring your dream project to life.

➡️A £2,000 award provides the vital funding needed to transform an idea into action and take the first steps towards achieving your goal.
➡️A £5,000 award supports exceptional projects with bigger ambitions in terms of scale, impact or international reach.

🚨Closing date: Monday 15 February 2027 at 5pm.

Supported by generous donors, including Sir Alex Ferguson CBE, the Magnusson Fund provides ambitious students with the opportunity to turn bold ideas into reality and create experiences that can shape their future.

And what could your Magnusson project be❔

Previous award winners have used their funding to pursue ambitions at home and around the world, from volunteering in a leprosy hospital in North India to developing a games design project with Castlemilk schoolchildren to help identify dyslexia. Your idea could be next.

Please note that placements which are part of your course are not eligible to be funded with a Magnusson Award.

⚠️Students are reminded that the University is upgrading it’s Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to Microsoft Entra ID and you should set up Microsoft Authenticator as your MFA method as soon as possible if you are yet to do so.

As stated in previous communications, the roll out of Entra will take place in phases, with GCU Learn next to move behind the platform on Monday 19 October📲

The great news is the majority of students have already set up the Microsoft Authenticator App. If you are yet to do so, it’s important that you set up Microsoft MFA this week in order to ensure uninterrupted access to GCU Learn from 19 October onwards.

What do I need to do if I have not set up Microsoft MFA? If you are yet to do so, we recommend that you visit our dedicated MFA webpages to access our step-by-step guides to set up MFA.

We strongly recommend that you download the Microsoft Authenticator App as your preferred MFA method. Set up MFA now⚠️

What is MFA❔

MFA provides an extra layer of security for your GCU account.

Your password is the first factor used to verify your identity. MFA adds a second factor. This helps protect your personal information, University data, and online services even if your password is compromised.

Setting up MFA is required to access GCU services securely and helps protect both your account and the wider University community from unauthorised access.

Why do I need to set up MFA❔

➡️MFA provides essential security to you and our student community, protecting you from cyber threats
➡️To access GCU systems like GCU Learn, your student email and your teaching timetable
➡️The process is easy and only takes a few minutes

🤔Did you know students can use the lockers around campus to safely store your belongings?

There are over 1,000 lockers across the Annie Lennox, George Moore & Charles Oakley buildings that students can use for free!

And here's how to access them👇
