The future is bright; the latest group of nursing degree students from University of Gloucestershire impress our St Faith's nursing home team. Kira, Monika, Becca and Takudza have successfully finished their fourteen week placement, with support from our nurses Sally, Pauline and Karen at St Faith's.

Monika explains, "We have really enjoyed every moment. We have learnt so much. The team has been amazing - supporting us every single day. It was the best placement I've ever had. I have felt very valued. We've seen how the nurses provide good leadership and we are learning every single day. The knowledge I have absorbed is mind blowing."

Karen Barry, our nurse commented, “We are really proud to be teaching and supporting the future nursing workforce. It's very rewarding to see them develop and grow in confidence and skill. It definitely enhances the care we provide.”

Our St Faith's nursing home has been working in partnership with the University of Gloucestershire for over five years offering placements to student nurses studying for their nursing degrees.

The partnership is so successful that Health Education England have invited the University of Gloucestershire to their national conference in July where they will be running a workshop with Lilian Faithfull Care.

The nursing students continue to be an inspiration and all the St Faith’s staff wish them every success in the future. We look forward to giving a warm welcome to the next group soon!

In case you missed it, there are now more than 700,000 professionals on the NMC register, according to their mid-year data report released in December.

This means there are more registered nurses, midwives and nursing associates (in England) than ever.

The data shows that the number of professionals whose initial registration was in the UK increased by 5,012. It also shows that while the number of professionals joining our register from the European Economic Area (EEA) has fallen, the number joining from outside the EEA has grown significantly.

Changes for returning to practice
NMC have taken steps to remove barriers facing professionals returning to practice and their employers, while applying a robust process to ensure safe care.

From 28 January, people who want to return to practice but can't meet NMC readmission or revalidation practice hours requirements will have the option to take the test of competence. If they prefer, they can still complete a return to practice course.

In November our Council also approved proposals to amend our readmission process and English language requirements from 28 January.

You have the option to complete a test of competence if you cannot meet our readmission or revalidation practice hours requirements
