Last week, students and staff from our Schools of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and SEND & Foundation Studies took on something extraordinary, climbing the total height of Mount Everest, one flight of stairs at a time.

That's the equivalent of 3,871 flights of stairs across 25 participants, all in aid of Crohn's & Colitis UK.

Not only did they smash their £150 target, they more than doubled it, raising an incredible £415 for a charity that supports people living with lifelong bowel conditions every day.

A huge well done to Ben Glaister-Smith for coordinating and everyone who took part, and a massive thank you to everyone who donated.

Last Friday, our staff and students took on the Ice Bucket Challenge in support of the Mental Health Foundation, and as you can see from the video below, we had a ton of fun and laughs amid the chaos.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, our brilliant staff braved buckets of icy cold water while students cheered them on, raising £122 for an incredibly important cause. The energy and college spirit on display made it a day to remember.

A huge thank you to Amy Campbell, Student Outreach and Engagement Officer, for coordinating the whole event, and to every member of staff who put themselves forward, and everyone who donated and supported on the day.

Thank you for helping us make a splash for mental health.

Our Level 1 Health & Social Care and Early Years students have been making a huge difference in the local community over the past two weeks, visiting Elwick Grange Care Home as part of their enrichment programme.

Students planned and delivered a range of activities for residents including games, gardening, and good conversation, thoughtfully designed to be inclusive for a variety of abilities including those living with dementia, linking directly to their current studies.

The good work continued on Wednesday, with Health & Care Lecturer Jill Myers, Student Outreach and Engagement Officer Amy Campbell, and the fantastic group of learners back at Elwick Grange for another round of resident activities.

This partnership is all about putting learning into practice in ways that genuinely matter to people in our community, and is part of a broader pattern of work Hartlepool College is undertaking in care homes across the town. We're so proud of these students for showing such care, creativity, and compassion.

One College. Two Goals.

Meet Henry and Thomas Craggs - twin brothers, teammates, and Level 3 Sports Coaching & Development students here at Hartlepool College. Between them they play rugby for Hartlepool Boy's Brigade Old Boys Rugby Football Club, and dodgeball for the Hartlepool Mavericks.

This Saturday, it's a massive moment for the Mavericks. Henry, Thomas and the squad are heading into a playoff decider in the British dodgeball national league. Win, and they're into the promotion playoffs - one step away from League 1.

Henry and Thomas embody what this campaign is all about: students who bring the same dedication, discipline and drive to their studies as they do to their sport. That's the kind of ambition we champion at Hartlepool College, and why we believe you should never have to choose between your passions and your future.

One college. Two goals. Everything possible. Come on the Mavericks! 🏐💪

This week, our School of SEND and Foundation Studies hosted its inaugural Industry Advisory Board, representing a milestone moment for the school and a powerful statement of intent about the bright future we're building for our learners.

A huge thank you to every organisation and individual who gave up their time to be part of this first session, including Stevensons Forecourt, Seymour Civil Engineering, Paul Frankland, Tees Valley Combined Authority, WCS Interiors Ltd, Hartlepool Borough Council, and Barnardos. The energy, passion, and personal investment in the room was clear, with each attendee bringing their own experiences and drive, united by a shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Your ideas and enthusiasm for what this board can achieve will directly shape how we develop provision, open employment pathways, and ensure our learners have every chance to thrive. We look forward to welcoming even more members to the Board at our next meeting.

A special thank you to Head of School Sue Harris and Deputy Heads Andrea Anderson and Lee Clayton, as well as Gary Riches and John Cartwright, for leading this inspiring and purposeful session. 🌟
