In September 1979, Ahmad Shafiai bin Uda Jaafar spent two weeks at Hartpury while visiting from Malaysia as part of the prestigious Colombo Plan Technical Teachers' Award programme π
During his visit, Ahmad contributed via Meteorology: climbing to the rooftop of Hartpury house to collect data from the weather instruments, and delivered an impromptu talk in the science lab on the usage of Urea in Malaysian Rice Plantations.
Ahmad said: "My time at Hartpury was a blend of high-level science and warm rural tradition. From "evening brews" in the Lab Pantry to playing mini-golf near the apple orchard. I am proud to have been a bridge between Malaysian agricultural innovation and British heritage."
