This year, as part of CONNECT, the UH Common Reading Experience Programme, students and staff are reading The Good Immigrant edited by Nikesh Shukla. We are also participating in discussions, activities and events that relate to the themes of the book.

We are delighted to invite you to join us for one of these events and to meet Nikesh and contributing authors Varaidzo and Daniel York Loh. They will be talking about the inspiration behind their stories as well as their views on many of the themes discussed in The Good Immigrant. This will be followed by a Q&A session and a book signing.

The event will take place on Wednesday 13th December at 5pm in Room N001, de Havilland campus, University of Hertfordshire. Please see the flyer below for further information and booking details. This is a free of charge public event and light refreshments will be available from 4:40pm.

We would like to extend this invitation to all staff, students and the general public and would therefore encourage you to forward this invitation to students, friends and family.

After day one of the assessment centre we had positive comments from the Assessors yesterday!

Assessors commented that they saw some excellent presentation preparation!
- Students were enthusiastic throughout the day and very professional
- Students were prepared and were smart and dressed for the occasion
- Many students were nervous on arrival but relaxed as the event progressed and were very positive on leaving

Bring on day two, our students are getting ready for their one-to-one interviews, group exercises and presentations! Good luck to all students ☘️

Business School News: Assessment Centre Experience 2017

Tomorrow, our Business School students will be taking part in the assessment centre experience this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

This initiative aims to give HBS students as real-life an experience of the current recruitment process as possible, help them to secure a placement or internship in a competitive landscape and ultimately ensure that our students have the employability skills to obtain a graduate role once they have completed their degree.

The assessment centre experience was ran last year and 100% of students who provided feedback said the experience gave them a better insight into the recruitment process. 96% described the experience positively - beneficial, good, helpful, insightful, eye opening, enjoyable and learnt a lot!

Collect a free “The Good Immigrant” book, available to all business students. This book not only talks about the importance of immigrants but also gives an idea of how to be the type of person who could change people’s ways of thinking about others and their cultures in a positive way instead of discriminating them.

This will be a great way to learn about different backgrounds and how immigrants may be impacted in a negative way due to living in a new region.
