🎉 The University of Hertfordshire has been awarded the prestigious Race Equality Charter (REC) Silver Award by Advance HE!

Herts is now one of just 11 UK universities to hold the award, recognising significant and sustained progress in advancing race equity.

Professor Anthony Woodman, Vice-Chancellor, said:

Students to join frontline emergency response scheme in Hertfordshire.

We're proud to launch a new blue-light response car in partnership with Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Critical Care Service (BHECCS).

The partnership will give eligible Herts students the opportunity to volunteer as Emergency Responders, gaining valuable frontline experience while supporting patients experiencing the highest-level emergencies across Hertfordshire.

The first cohort is expected to be on the road from early 2027.

The initiative builds on our long-standing leadership in paramedic education, having become the first UK university to offer a paramedic science degree in 1998.

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, we’re sharing reflections and stories from our students about culture, identity, food and heritage.

Today’s contribution comes from Onome Abuku, a SPECS student at the University of Hertfordshire, who shares what jollof rice means to them and the memories and celebrations they associate with it. 🧡

'Wondered what dish usually takes the show at every west African event? Jollof rice is a West African dish which is usually orange reddish in colour and spicy, over time various African country came up with their own procedure of cooking jollof rice.

Jollof rice has shaped me in a way that I associate it with joy, happiness, celebration, personally, if I were to choose one word that resonates with it, it would be “Jolly” which literally means full of high spirit. This word comes to mind because jollof, because in most cases it’s usually on the menu for festival seasons, birthdays, parties, get together and just celebration in general.
Everyone has their own spice tolerance, but I'd love for people to try it and see whether they get that same "jolly" experience. 😆 '
