University of Hertfordshire Law School

University of Hertfordshire Law School Welcome to the official page of The University of Hertfordshire School of Law. We are one of the largest, most innovative law schools in the UK.

Our students have access to fantastic facilities, including our Law Court Building containing a replica Crown Courtroom, all located on our de Havilland Campus. Alongside our degrees, students are actively encouraged to get involved in our many pro bono, volunteering and co-curricular activities. We provide free legal advice through our award-winning Hertfordshire Law Clinic and provide legal educ

ation to local schools and colleges through our ‘Streetlaw’ project. Co-curricular activities include trial advocacy, mooting, mediation, commercial awareness, debating, being a detective, working with offenders, forensic psychology and many more! Our Hatfield campus is perfectly located, just north of London. This means that those who decide to take up work experience and placement opportunities can do so locally, in the capital or further afield. Undergraduate students also have the opportunity to study at one of 170 partner universities across the globe in a study abroad option.

Did you know? ⚖️

The oldest known law code is over 4,000 years old.

The Code of Ur-Nammu is the oldest known surviving law code, written in Sumerian on clay tablets between 2100 and 2050 BCE. Originating in Mesopotamia, this code is centuries older than the famous Code of Hammurabi and emphasizes monetary compensation for bodily injury rather than "eye for an eye" justice.

💙 It’s Mental Health Awareness Week 💙

Law students – we know this time of year can feel intense. Deadlines, revision and pressure can quickly build up.

Take a moment today to check in with yourself. A short break, a walk or a chat with a friend can make a real difference.

Looking after your wellbeing is just as important as your studies. You don’t have to do it all alone.

Last week, our students took part in a practical CV Writing Workshop delivered in collaboration with Greystone Solicitors.

The session focused on key employability skills, including CV writing, drafting effective cover letters and practical tips for securing work experience. Students also had the opportunity to engage directly with legal professionals, gaining valuable insight and guidance to support their career development.

A big thank you to Bilal Farooq and Maleehah Oozeerally for sharing their expertise and supporting our students’ next steps into the legal profession.
