Yesterday marked ten years since the death of Jo Cox. Ten years later, Jo's legacy lives on and her belief 'that we have more in common than that which divides us' still rings true.

On campus, we honour Jo and her memory daily, with our community and prayer rooms housed in our Jo Cox More in Common Centre. Yesterday was more special and significant, as it marked the tenth anniversary of Jo's passing; we were immensely proud to partner with The Jo Cox Foundation to host 'The Great Get Together'.

The Great Get Together welcomed students, staff, guests and visiting pupils from Heckmondwike Grammar School, Batley Girls High School and Woodley School and College for a celebration.

Food and drink were shared, games were played, and the sense of community could be felt everywhere. We couldn't imagine a better way for us to commemorate the occasion and continue to uphold Jo's values and everything she stood for.

Huddersfield has moved up the QS World University Rankings for 2027. It has risen to 521st globally in the annual rankings, amongst more than 1,500 institutions. The University is now also 285th in the world for its sustainability measures! ♻️🌍

🎨✨ Our Barbara Hepworth Building has been TRANSFORMED and you need to see it before Saturday!

Our final year Arts and Humanities students have taken over the entire building with their end-of-year showcase – think fine art, textiles, print, illustration, fashion and so much more all in one place. This is literally a whole year's worth of creativity, late nights and dedication on display.

Whether you're into bold prints, intricate textiles or statement fashion pieces, there's something here that'll blow your mind.

🥳 There's nothing better that celebrating the success of our students!

Our apprenticeship students and employers have been recognised at our annual Apprenticeship Awards for their outstanding contribution to their workplace. We also celebrated the employers that are pivotal to our apprenticeship programme.

Prizes were awarded across six categories:
🏅 Level 5 Apprentice of the Year;
🏅 Level 6 Apprentice of the Year;
🏅 Level 7 Apprentice of the Year;
🏅 Small Employer of the Year;
🏅 Large Employer of the Year, and;
🏅 Apprenticeship Ambassador of the Year.

Professor Tim Thornton, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, spoke at the awards ceremony, alongside the University’s Director of Apprenticeships, Brian Culleton, who then presented the prizes to the 2026 winners.

“The University is extremely proud of the remarkable success of its apprenticeships,” said Mr Culleton.

When it comes to university, the experience of students who've been there and done it is invaluable.

The University Compare Rankings 2027, published this week, used more than 176,000 verified student reviews to rank universities in the UK - and we're proud to have been listed sixth for accommodation and employability! 🏘️👔

The employability rankings take into account how universities help students get ready for life after graduation. This includes placement years, industry connections and career support. It also uses the views of alumni who've shared how they found securing employment after graduation and the support they received after leaving.

The accommodation rating does what it says on the tin, looking at how students rate where they live at uni.
