We are proud to announce that the University of Suffolk is now classed as a Silver Hedgehog Friendly Campus under the HedgehogFriendlyCampus Scheme 🦔

It has been another challenging year with limited access to campus. Nevertheless, the hedgehog working group at the UOS gave their best to work towards Silver.

We have installed a hedgehog-highway, worked on a wildlife garden, pond, and wildflower meadow, and tried to keep you all up to date with interesting facts on hedgehogs 🌱

We want to thank the University of Suffolk Students Union, Justine Oakes and the University of Suffolk, and everyone else that has contributed.

Obviously, we also want to thank Jo and her Team of the Hedgehog Friendly Campus Scheme and the British Hedgehog Preservation Society for another wonderful and supportive year!

We are desperately looking for new members that help make the UOS a better place for hedgehogs. If you are interested in joining, contact us :)

Since 2000 hedgehogs in urban areas have decreased by 30%.
This decline has been linked to the construction of fences.

To help our hog friends in and around our campus we have a created a hedgehog highway, allowing free movement between habitats, this is located in our wildlife garden🌱🐾.

Are you a member of the Wildlife Society?
Then join our Trip to Suffolk Wildlife Trust Trimley Marshes on Friday the 19th of November (09:15am - 2pm)
Sign Up Here: https://wildlifesociety.typeform.com/to/UD6yfj2s

We have organized a bus and the entire trip will be free for members. It's a great opportunity to see wildlife, mainly birds but there is also the chance for seeing Fallow Deer, Muntjac, and Chinese Water Deer. IF you are very lucky you may even see a badger! 🦌🦡
But make sure you sign up now as there are limited spaces available!

We have guides that will share their knowledge with you!

We will meet at 9:15am on the 19th in front of the SU / library building. We plan to leave to Trimley by 09:30. We are planning to come back by around 2 pm.

Make sure you bring water and food. Wear appropriate clothing and ideally bring a camera or some binoculars.

Please let us now if you have any medical conditions and bring your medicine if you do. As we are still in a pandemic, please bring masks to wear on the bus and ideally make a lateral flow test before the event.

We had a nice day working with at Landseer Park in Ipswich to enhance its biodiversity and prepare the meadow for some wildflower growth for next spring and summer🌞🌻. If you are interested in joining the volunteer team, give us a message! We found several common lizards and a slow worm.
