We are at the Suffolk Show (Official) today and tomorrow in the Skills Zone, showcasing the future of construction in Suffolk.

Visitors can explore hands‑on activities and live demonstrations covering brickwork, carpentry, painting and decorating, plumbing, electrical and digital construction technology. It is a great opportunity for young people to learn more about career pathways in construction.

We will be attending the Suffolk Show (Official) in the Skills & Tech Zone, offering a wide range of interactive activities linked directly to the courses we offer.

Visitors can explore hands‑on science activities, sustainability projects such as the smoothie bike, and industry‑supported experiences including virtual welding. We will also be showcasing our plumbing and electrical pathways, with staff and students available to discuss post‑16 options, progression routes and career opportunities.

We are incredibly proud of our students Charlie Davey and Oliver John Cage, who took part in the Tycoon Business Competition and successfully brought their business idea to life.

After securing a small start‑up loan, they created and sold oyster shell candles and jewellery holders, making a £97.63 profit through sales at college and Ipswich market. Despite facing challenges along the way, they demonstrated resilience, teamwork and strong entrepreneurial skills throughout.

A fantastic achievement and a great example of how our students develop real‑world business experience.

One Sixth Form College is launching a brand new catering experience, with students leading the branding as part of a live creative brief.

Students are invited to design the name and logo for the new catering brand, with the winning design used across campus.

This project gives students the chance to apply real‑world design skills, with a £100 Amazon voucher awarded to the winner 💸

One Sixth Form College is proud to support Chantry Youth Unity Day, taking place on Friday 29 May, 10am–3pm on Scrivener Drive, Ipswich (IP8 3SU).

The event has been organised in partnership with Aspire, Ipswich Police, Ipswich Town Foundation and Active Suffolk, offering young people a wide range of positive and accessible activities. These include basketball sessions led by Aspire, opportunities to engage with Ipswich Town Foundation through sport, creative dance and art workshops, as well as music and food throughout the day.

There will also be a Suffolk Constabulary stand, along with Active Suffolk Youth Voice and Sport Sense Community Voice, giving young people the chance to share their views and connect with local services in a supportive environment.

The day aims to promote positive community engagement, youth voice and wellbeing, and we encourage families in the Chantry area to come along and take part.

Jack Abbott spoke with students, answering questions on topics including Ipswich town centre, the rise of small parties, diversity and integration, and how young people can get more involved in politics.
