We’re delighted to share that we’ve had another successful year at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2026! 🌟

Last night we were proud to take home awards for International and Postgraduate, with even more exciting news that we won the Lecturer and Teaching Quality award for the second year running.

These awards are made even more special because they’re voted for by students, so we'd like to extend a big thank you to everyone who took the time to vote.

Safe to say there were lots of happy faces on the night!

Today we unveiled the new Quantum Optics Discovery (QOD) Lab at our Digitech Centre in Martlesham.

This nationally-significant site - the largest indoor optical research facility in the UK - will play a key role in testing laser communications to and from space, and could even help support future space missions!

The £6.2million project enables testing of laser communications through conditions such as rain, fog and wind, and can connect laser communications from a transportable optical ground station on site, up to satellites in space, and back down to Earth in Scotland.

It will enable commercial and research testing opportunities that will support a wealth of industries relying on secure communications, including emergency services, disaster zone recovery, security, financial services and much more.

Thank you to all who came along to our opening event today, and to all our project partners: University of Glasgow, Heriot-Watt University, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, BT, UK Space Agency, Azora, and Space East.
