Celebrating the recipients of this year’s Berne Excellence Award ✨

The award recognises those whose commitment, character, and contribution make a meaningful difference to our community. This year, we are delighted to celebrate Kirsty Steel Champ, Diane Hooper, and Vicky Boyle.

Kirsty has developed enormously, both personally and professionally, throughout her training. Calm, solid, dependable, kind, and reassuring, she communicates with directness and clarity while remaining firmly rooted in an admirable I’m OK, You’re OK position. She has worked incredibly hard as Student Representative Coordinator, approaching the role with consistency, consideration, and care. Kirsty brings insight and genuine value to the whole Berne environment, and we are deeply grateful for her support.

Diane has been part of The Berne since the handover from Ian, when it was just Helen, Annette, and Di carrying the work now shared by the wider team. Despite holding other significant roles that take her around the world, she has remained a loyal, deeply connected, and caring member of our community. Her diligence helps ensure that the bills are paid, The Berne continues to grow, and Adrienne and Annette’s spending whims are kept under some degree of control! We are enormously grateful for Diane’s unwavering commitment and the warmth and humour she brings to the team.

Vicky has shown extraordinary steadiness through a period of major upheaval and personal change. Even while defending herself during a recent court case, she has remained calm, purposeful, and hardworking.

Throughout it all, Vicky has continued to show up as a consistent and valued member of the student body. She completed her PGDip this year while establishing a successful private practice, turning her learning, experience, and determination into a strong professional foundation. Her resilience and commitment to her development and the wider Berne community are truly worthy of recognition.

Please join us in congratulating Kirsty, Diane, and Vicky on this thoroughly deserved award. We are incredibly grateful for everything they each bring to The Berne.

TA101: An Introduction to Transactional Analysis
Three days. One foundation. A whole new way of understanding people.

The TA101 is your entry point into Transactional Analysis. No previous experience needed, just curiosity about why we behave the way we do and how we relate to others.

Over three days you’ll explore ego states, life scripts, the games people play, strokes and hungers, life positions, and the frame of reference that filters how we each see reality. It’s the official introduction recognised by the ITAA and EATA, and completing it earns you the TA101 certificate. That certificate is the first step if you later choose to train as a TA practitioner.

It’s especially useful if you work in the helping professions, management, communications, or teaching. It’s just as valuable if you simply want to understand yourself and your relationships more fully.

Led by Adrienne Lee TSTA (P).

📅 4-6 September, Online
💷 £375 for three days
🎓 No prior qualifications required

Another Berne Conference has come to a close, and with it the end of an academic year.

This year’s theme, Change and Transformation, came to life in ways we couldn’t have imagined. For the first time, we gathered as one community both at Berne House and online, welcoming students from around the world into the same conversations, the same learning, and the same shared experience. Different places, one community.

Across the weekend we explored, questioned, laughed, reflected, and grew through inspiring seminars, thought-provoking discussions, and countless moments of connection. We shared music, dancing, stories, and food, celebrating not only our learning, but the relationships that make this community so special. There was an enlivening sense of vitality throughout the weekend, reminding us that transformation happens not only through study, but through meeting one another.

One of the most moving moments came at the close of the conference, as each person offered a single word to capture what the weekend had meant to them. Together, those words became a reflection of the richness of our shared experience.

Congratulations to the students completing their journey at Berne and stepping into the world as psychotherapists. We also celebrate those moving from Advanced Training into Exam Group, and warmly welcome everyone returning next year, along with those beginning their Foundation journey this September.

Thank you to every student, tutor, presenter, volunteer, and member of our community for bringing such generosity, curiosity, and heart to the weekend. Here’s to another year of learning, growth, connection, and becoming.

It is the essential first step towards further TA training, and a valuable toolkit in its own right for those in the helping professions, teaching, and management consultancy.

Completion leads to the Berne Foundation Certificate and the EATA TA101 certificate. No previous academic qualification is required for entry.

Two groups available: in person at Berne House, or online.

Applications are open now. Email [email protected] for more information or to apply.

When Truth Faces Fractures: Clinical Practice in the Post-Truth Era
A seminar with Andy Williams TSTA (P)

What happens when truth becomes optional?

In a world of alternative facts, curated identities, and algorithm-driven realities, therapists are increasingly meeting clients who feel confused, polarised, and unsure what to believe.

This lively, thought-provoking 90-minute seminar explores how the post-truth era is shaping identity, relationships, and the therapeutic encounter. Drawing on Transactional Analysis and contemporary thinking, Andy Williams invites you to reflect on trust, meaning-making, and the role of the therapist when certainty collapses.

Expect challenge, curiosity, and practical insight as we ask: how do we work when truth itself is up for negotiation?

📅 Wednesday 22nd July, 6:30–8:00pm (UK time)
