๐Ÿ“ฃ Meet Our Learners: Lida's English Learning Journey

Meet Ionica Dalea (Lida), an ESOL learner who has recently joined one of our English Conversation Classes and is already enjoying the experience.

"Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ I'm Lida and I'm from Craiova in southern Romania.

I've been working at Cranswick Convenience Foods, Hull, for a few months now and recently started attending the English Conversation Class. I really enjoy coming to class. My favourite part is learning English and speaking with my classmates. It helps me feel more confident and gives me the chance to practise English in a friendly environment.

My goal is to improve my English so I can create better opportunities for myself in the future. The course is helping me improve my speaking, reading and understanding, and I feel more confident every week.

I'm looking forward to continuing my learning and hope to join a Functional Skills English course in September to help me take the next step."

For Lida, learning English is about much more than attending a class. It's about building confidence, meeting new people and opening doors for the future. Since joining the group, she has approached every lesson with enthusiasm and a real desire to improve.

Learning a new language isn't always easy, but Lida's determination and willingness to keep trying are already making a difference. She is excited about what comes next and is taking positive steps towards achieving her personal and career goals.

Well done, Lida. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ‘‰ Interested in improving your English or supporting your workforce to develop their language skills?

Our ESOL courses help learners build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing English for everyday life and work. We also work with employers to deliver ESOL training that supports staff development and workplace communication.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Real Stories, Real Careers

Meet Lawrence Wade, a 19-year-old Engineering Operative Level 2 Apprentice with Swift Caravans, who is developing valuable skills, confidence and experience through his apprenticeship.

"I started my apprenticeship in September 2024 and I'm due to finish soon. It's been a really positive experience. I've made new friends, the tutors have been great and supportive, and it's been a great career choice for me."

As part of his role at Swift Caravans, Lawrence works as a Machine Operative, running manufacturing machinery and gaining hands-on experience in a busy engineering environment.

"I've always wanted to work in engineering, and Swift has been perfect for me. I live in Cottingham and it's been a great experience. Everyone is really supportive of my career development and personal growth, which has helped me build my confidence and skills."

Lawrence believes apprenticeships are a great route into employment, combining practical experience with learning and development.

"I'd definitely recommend an apprenticeship. It gives you the opportunity to build a career for life, and you're treated like an adult in a professional working environment. You're trusted with real responsibilities, which helps build your confidence and experience. The teaching has suited the way I learn, and the support from both my employer and tutors has helped me get the most out of the apprenticeship."

With support from both Swift Caravans and Hull Training and Adult Education, Lawrence is gaining the knowledge, practical skills and industry experience needed for a successful future in engineering, while Swift continues to invest in developing skilled professionals for the future.
