Our NEW Welder Level 2 Apprenticeship enables employers to build a pipeline of skilled, motivated employees while helping to address workforce and skills shortages across the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Delivered from our brand-new Centre for Learning on George Street, Hull, this apprenticeship will provide access to modern facilities designed to support the next generation of engineering and manufacturing talent.

Apprentices will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work safely and effectively in a welding role, including:

⚙️ Health, safety and safe working practices
🔥 MIG, TIG, MMA and other welding processes
📐 Interpreting engineering drawings and specifications

💬 What do some of our Functional Skills learners think of the new Centre for Learning?

We caught up with some of our Functional Skills Maths, Functional Skills English and Essential Digital Skills learners to find out what they think of our new Centre for Learning during their first classes in the building.

From bright, modern classrooms and dedicated learning spaces to improved accessibility and a convenient city centre location, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

Learners highlighted the spacious classrooms, individual workstations, welcoming staff and excellent transport links, helping them feel settled and ready to learn. Some even gave a special mention to the hot chocolate from the vending machine! ☕

📣 Meet Our Learners: Austin's Journey Towards Employment

Meet Austin Greenley, 29, one of our learners who has recently started our Employability Skills Course at our new Centre for Learning! 👏

Austin has already achieved his Entry Level 3 Maths and English qualifications with HTAE and is now taking the next steps towards his goal of becoming a bricklayer.

"I've done my Entry Level 3 Maths and English with HTAE and I'm trying to get an apprenticeship in bricklaying. I wanted to improve my employability, digital skills and CV writing.

As much as I feel tech-savvy, I know I need to improve my digital skills for employability and getting into work. I've previously worked as a bartender and in sports coaching, and I've been trying to find work. With the demand for construction and trades, I feel now is the time for me to improve my employability and take that next step into a career I have always been interested in pursuing."

For Austin, the Employability Skills Course is helping him build practical skills and confidence for the workplace. Learners are supported with:

🔹 Searching for jobs and understanding job descriptions
🔹 Writing CVs, application forms and personal statements
🔹 Preparing for interviews and building workplace confidence
🔹 Developing essential digital, maths and English skills

Austin has also noticed a big difference in his learning environment at the new Centre for Learning:

"I've been to the Avenues Adult Education Centre previously, but this is very modern, warm, bright and inviting. It's a really nice learning environment."

💬 Real Stories, Real Careers

Meet Kiara, 16, one of our new Level 1 Bricklaying learners at Hull Training and Adult Education.

Kiara chose bricklaying because she enjoys hands-on work and always saw herself pursuing a career in the trades.

"I've always been an active, practical person and knew I wanted to learn a trade. Out of all the courses available, bricklaying stood out to me the most."

After hearing about HTAE through her school, Kiara attended a taster event and quickly felt it was the right place for her.

"Someone from my school recommended HTAE, so I came along to a taster event and had a look around. I liked what I saw and decided to sign up."

Since starting her course, Kiara has enjoyed developing new skills and building confidence in the workshop.

"I'm really enjoying it so far and feel like it's definitely where I want to be. I'd like to progress onto Level 2 and eventually find an employer so I can continue building my career."

Kiara is also passionate about seeing more women enter construction and challenging outdated stereotypes about the industry.

"More women are choosing careers in the trades, and I think that's great. If you enjoy practical work, don't let anything put you off giving it a go."

She hopes her story will encourage other young women to consider a future in construction.

"Construction is for everyone. If it's something you're interested in, give it a try. You might be surprised by how much you enjoy it."

As one of our newest bricklaying learners, Kiara is already developing the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to take the first steps towards a career in the construction industry.
