The start of term has been all about seeking inspiration, soaking in different art forms and experimenting with new ideas for our Year 14 art students. 🧑‍🎨

As they begin to delve deeper into their own art specialisms and hone their skills, exposure to a range of influences helps to broaden their perspectives and inspire creative thinking. 🖌️✏️🎨

The students recently visited the Wakefield Hepworth Gallery and Yorkshire Sculpture Park as part of their creative exploration. 🎉

Year 12 students studying a range of arts subjects had the amazing opportunity of working with talented Hull artist, Anna Bean! 🎨

The week long project funded by Generation Hull saw students combine artistic flair with engineering know-how to create stunning character masks with moving elements. 🖌️🔧

Photography students were then tasked to set up photoshoots capturing the unique characters, while graphic design students designed merchandise themed around the creations. 📸💻

Throughout the week experienced artist Anna worked with the students to help them develop their creative visions and shared insights and advice which she has picked up throughout her career of designing concepts, sets, costumes, props, and characters for immersive installations and theatrical events. 🎉

💭 Anna said: "It's my first visit to Ron Dearing and I've been blown away by the talent, enthusiasm and ingenuity of the students.

"I've done similar mask-making projects with young people before, but never incorporated engineering elements. The students from Ron Dearing came up with innovative ideas and showed incredible attention to detail, which ultimately led to them producing incredible pieces." 💭

We’ve welcomed a new face to our English department! 👋

Kathy Lee has joined us as a Lead Practitioner, bringing with her 26 years of teaching experience in schools across Hull.

As well as teaching GCSE English, she also has plans to launch a student-led school newspaper, so watch this space!

Since Ron Dearing opened we're proud to have developed meaningful partnerships that deliver for both students and employers.

Our employer-led education model not only equips students with the skills and qualifications to succeed in their next steps, but provides businesses with access to a talent pool of young people who are equipped with employability skills that businesses actually want. 👏

AI insights! 💻

Our year 12 students recently took part in an informative session on AI with our Senior Assistant Principal for Digital and Computing, Zaeem Basit.

AI can be a useful tool to support learning, helping students research topics, clarify difficult concepts and explore ideas, but it needs to be used carefully and responsibly.

The session aimed to strengthen students’ knowledge and understanding of AI to help them use digital tools safely both in and out of school. 👏
