šŸ‘ŒEarly BSL isn’t a ā€œnice‑to‑haveā€ā€”it’s a game‑changer.

ā— Evidence: 100 + peer‑reviewed studies show zero proof that signing slows speech or literacy; it strengthens both.

ā— Impact: Early sign boosts cognition, emotional well-being and family bonds—advantages every child deserves.

ā— Value: RAND’s modelling says each Ā£1 spent on BSL in the early years returns roughly Ā£4 over a lifetime, even with hearing tech in the mix.

Liam O’Dell captures the findings beautifully; it’s a two-minute read that we urge every policymaker, practitioner, and parent to see šŸ‘‰ https://lnkd.in/eda9iAiz.

For Deaf‑Friendly Ltd, these findings aren’t just numbers; they echo what Deaf communities have known for generations.

Language equity from birth is a right, and sign‑bilingualism remains the fastest route to full communication, confidence and choice. When families meet BSL early, children arrive at nursery already thinking, reasoning and relating on their terms.

šŸ¤” Your turn: If you could change just one thing to make early BSL the UK default, what would it be — and why?

Drop your idea below, tag someone who should see this, and let’s keep the momentum going!

Image Description for Screen Readers: Illustration of a mother cradling her baby while gently signing in British Sign Language. The baby smiles back, mirroring a small waving gesture. Floating icons connect to them— a head with a heart (emotional wellbeing), two hands signing (language), a light‑bulb (cognition) and a heart (love)—highlighting the developmental benefits of early BSL.
