Leeds Trinity alumna Chelsey Ward, who graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2018, has been nominated for the Radio Times Moment of the Year at the prestigious Audio and Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) 👏
Chelsey now works as a Radio Presenter for BBC Yorkshire and has been recognised for bravely speaking on air about racial abuse she was subjected to last year – revealing the emotional impact it had on her.
Chelsey received a wave of support after sharing her account of the incident and prompted wider discussions about experiences of racial abuse, demonstrating the power of local radio to connect and support people.

Leeds Trinity is striving to be an anti-racist university and aims to promote values of mutual respect and inclusivity in all its activities. The University recently became the first university in Yorkshire, and just the seventh nationally, to be awarded the Race Equality Charter Silver award by Advance HE, recognising its sustained commitment to race equity, diversity, and inclusion across all areas of university life. Last month, it also launched the Anti-Racist Scholar Collective – a network of more than 120 academics from over 80 institutions across the UK, Europe, and the United States – to help advance race equity, anti-racist scholarship, and social justice across higher education and wider society.
The Radio Times Moment of the Year award returns for another year – but who will win?
