We are a group of researchers at Leeds University who specialise in studying how children communicate. We have set up a child friendly lab in the linguistics department at Leeds University where we run fun and interesting studies using toys, games, books and computers. You can find out more about our past and current research here: http://leedscdu.org/our-research/

Our findings help us answer qu

estions about how grammar, vocabulary, and effective communication develop. Our research is funded by The University of Leeds, the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), The Leverhulme Trust, The British Academy, and the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education. We are always looking for local schools, nurseries and families to take part in our studies, head to our website to find out more about what we do and how to get involved: http://leedscdu.org/

Does sleep help children learn to read? We are recruiting for an online study. Children will be given a £5 amazon voucher to say thank you.
We are still looking for a *few more* children aged 9-11 to take part. Children will complete a short reading task via video call and then some online experiments over 1 or 2 days. Our research aims to investigate how and when children learn to recognise words by sight and whether sleep is important for this. For more information please email us: [email protected]

Can you help? We are looking for parents of a young person with Autism, or individuals with Autism (16yrs+) themselves, who speak more than one language. We have created a short survey to find out more about their experiences of multi-lingualism. More information and the survey can be found here:

Please share our survey and help us to reach as many families as possible. Thank you!

** Effects of the COVID-19 crisis on children with Autism and their families **

Are you the parent or principal carer of a school-age child or adolescent with a clinical diagnosis on the Autism spectrum? If so, we would be very grateful if you would share your experiences with us in an online survey (approx. 20 minutes): https://www.soscisurvey.de/CoronaAutism/?q=English

In the survey, which is being run in four different countries simultaneously, we ask you to provide information about your child with Autism and another child you know well, e.g. a sibling. We are especially interested in their health and well-being, as well as how they spent a typical day before the pandemic, at the height of the crisis, and at present. We will also ask you about your current living situation and effects the pandemic situation has had on your family. This information will highlight the specific challenges faced by families with Autism in the current pandemic and and will be used to further develop guidelines and recommendations for coping with times of crisis.

Please tag any families you know who may be interested in this research. Thank you!

* HOME SCHOOLING SURVEY *

Do you have a primary school aged child who is learning at home or still in school (e.g., because you are a key worker) during COVID-19? Please take 10 minutes to share your experiences - whatever they may be - in our online survey:

https://leedspsychology.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eGai47hsB7pKrFb?fbclid=IwAR3Uc91UIPL0B8cOdSK39h1r_FZgdyzoUi1zrdjIAIZBxNpw7D7tbXYqyFY

If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 6 and returned to full time education on 01/06/2020, please do not take part in this survey.

Thank you!

* NOW RECRUITING FAMILIES WITH 8 - 36 MONTH-OLD CHILDREN *

With our collaborators at Oxford Brookes University, we are running a new study to investigate how quarantine and social distancing measures might affect development in children aged between 8 and 36 months old.

This study involves you as a parent/guardian completing two online questionnaires about you and your child. You will also be asked to play a number of simple games with your child.

The first questionnaire should be completed as soon as possible after you register. The second will be sent you to once social distancing rules are lifted and schools and nurseries reopen.

Thanks to the support of the ESRC (our funding agency), we will be able to compensate your time by giving you a £30 Amazon voucher once you complete the second questionnaire.

We would really appreciate your collaboration and your time in helping us to understand how the lockdown affects infant and toddler development.
