Next week is the inaugural Business Ethics Week at the University of Leeds, a collaboration between Inter-Disciplinary Ethics and Leeds University Business School

The aim of the week is to encourage everyone to explore the connections between ethics and business. What are the barriers to ethical business practice? Which problems demand immediate attention? What does good practice look like, and can business really be ethical in our modern world?

Dr Josh Hobbs has organised two events to pose some of these questions.

The first event asks big questions about the rise of AI in business and our personal lives, with talks from Ruby Hornsby and Sophie .

The second event explores the world of fast-fashion and fashion reselling, with talks from John Harris (No Sweat), and Josh Hobbs.

Both events are free to attend to anyone interested in the topics.

We will be running a stall in Leeds University Business School and launching a student competition to produce a piece of media exploring an ethical issue in business.

A new academic year brings the return of the Ethics Untangled podcast.

In the latest episode, Jim Baxter speaks with Matilde Nanni (University of Inland Norway, Lillehammer) about the ethical challenges raised by voice synthesis and voice cloning technologies.

AI can now generate highly convincing synthetic voices and even replicate the voices of real people to the point where they may be indistinguishable from the original. As these technologies become more sophisticated, important questions emerge about identity, consent, ownership, and the potential harms faced by those whose voices are used to train AI systems.

How should we think about the relationship between our voices and our identities? And what responsibilities do developers and users of voice cloning technologies have towards voice donors?
