It’s nearly September, and we’ll soon be welcoming a new bunch of students to our campus 🥳

We're sure you're just as excited about Welcome Week as we are, but there are a few things you need to do before you join us!

Now:
✔️ Activate your University IT account

After Wednesday 2 September:
✔️ Complete online registration
✔️ Do your online identity check

After Thursday 3 September:
✔️ Enrol on optional and discovery modules (unless you have compulsory modules only)

The International Medieval Congress is back next week from 6 to 9 July ⚔️

International Medieval Congress - University of Leeds is Europe's largest forum for sharing ideas in medieval studies. Alongside hundreds of academic sessions, the congress will feature a medieval book and craft fair, birds of prey, and combat displays right here on campus.

New research shows that screen time for under 2s can lead to developmental concerns 👶📱

Academics across four UK universities explored the impact of screen use during the first 1001 days of life and its potential long-term effects on health and quality of life.

They found that screen time can be linked to several development concerns, such as:

💬 limited language development
🧠 overstimulation
😴 sleep disruption
️👥️ reduced social interaction
👁️ eye health impacts

Researchers are calling for screen technologies marked as suitable for ‘all ages’ to be reconsidered. While more research is still needed, simple steps like taking children outdoors, limiting screen time during meals and providing access to non-digital toys can be beneficial for young children 🌿
