IMPORTANT LGBTQ+ ELECTION NEWS. Please read entire post if you would like to run for committee next year. (DEADLINE TODAY)
-----
Elections for next years committee (2020/21) are now live.
For next year we are looking for a full team to re-energise the LGBTQ+ Society. Being part of a society committee is not only a great experience and opportunity, but it also goes towards volunteering hours that will be recognised and accredited by DMU, so you can use it on your CV’s!
ROLES
Next year we are looking to fill the following roles. (Note roles with * are mandatory for the society to run so please possibly consider these as a priority. Unfilled roles however will have follow up by-elections.)
- *Chairperson
- Co-Chairperson
- *Health and Safety (Awareness Vice Chair)
- Gender Awareness Officer
- Sexuality Awareness Officer
- *Secretary (Nights Out Vice Chair)
- *Treasurer
- Social Media Officer
RESPONSIBILITIES
As seen on the attached images, the individual roles have their own endeavours and activities, however all committee members share common roles and responsibilities.
• Being on the society and committee is more than just being part of a close-knit social group, but is also serious role, so a level of professional responsibility must be used when dealing with issues that may arise, regardless of issues within the committee, society or wider community.
• Everyone is expected to attend a monthly committee meeting to plan out everything to do with the society. These are vital to the committee, so you must make best efforts to attend these, especially for the first meeting of the year, and in the run-up to major events such as DMUpride.
• A mandatory training conference is also held at the end of the academic year and the beginning, which all members must attend (either one is usually fine). These are to train and develop your skills that will be used in the committee. (With recent events it is difficult to say how or when this will actually run).
• All committee must be actively logged in and using society social and email accounts on a daily basis, as to provide members with a quick point of contact.
• Finally, as with above, a Committee only Facebook chat will be vital backbone to communicating with the rest of the committee, and you will be expected to be an active part of this chat for the entire term of being a committee member.
IMPORTANT DATES
• Nominations close on Friday 3th April at 23:59.
• Voting opens on Wednesday 15th April at 12:00.
• Voting closes on Friday 24th April at 23:59.
• Results will released on week of 4th May.
HOW TO APPLY
1) You need to be logged in to the DSU site, and be a paid member of the LGBTQ+ society.
2) Once you have done that, follow the following link and scroll down to 'post list'. https://www.demontfortsu.com/activities/hq/policies/elections/
3) Any available role for all societies you are a part of (paid member) will be listed there.
4) At the top of the page, click ‘stand’, and fill in the details to agree with the Terms and Conditions.
5) To stand for a role, hit the 'stand' tab, and then click the 'stand' action against the role you wish to run for. You can only stand for one role per student group (DSU rules).
6) After that, there will be an option unlocked next to the role to attach a photo and a manifesto, should you wish to (its recommended!).
APPLICATION TIPS
You only have a 300 word limit so try to be to-the-point.
Talk about what you want to bring to the society, and perhaps break this down further into a small handful of short and sweet ‘pledges’, that you intend to carry out as a member of the committee.
Having a photo is optional, however is recommended as it helps people put a face to the name who they are considering voting for.
CLOSING NOTE
Applications close FRIDAY, 3rd APRIL, at 23:59.
The polls for voting on nominations open at 12:00 on Wednesday 15th April.
If you have any further queries regarding any of the roles or responsibilities, please message one of the committee most appropriate to the role, and they should be able to give you some advice.
Thankyou for taking your time to read this, and I hope that you consider running as part of the committee next year.
