We are an empowering, innovative and inclusive student-led Union championing your interests and providing a community that is home away from home. University life is a truly unique experience, full of great people and amazing activities. That’s why we’re dedicated to making sure every one of the University of Leicester's 21,500 students we represent embarks on a journey that is nothing short of exceptional. Although we regularly collaborate with the University, we are a fully independent organisation made up of student elected representatives that work totally and completely for you. So whether it’s signing up to one of our 250+ student groups or boosting your CV through part-time work, training or volunteering; you can count on us for the support you need to adjust, advance and achieve during your studies. ❗️ A message from your Executive Officers; Aimee, Blessy and Cleo ❗️

Students need to be appropriately guided and protected through the growing presence of AI on campus.

Following Turnitin’s planned changes in their End User Licence Agreement and student feedback confirming our concerns, we reached out to the University. They responded to our asks and have confirmed that they will monitor the changes delayed to 2027/28 closely to protect students’ interests.

However, the University of Leicester is still far from a safe and secure environment for students when it comes to AI.

We have called for the University to implement new genAI policies URGENTLY to protect graduate outcomes and prevent unjust academic misconduct cases. The traffic light policy is outdated and needs to be reviewed to guide students appropriately and avoid assessments with mandatory use of genAI.

We are working with staff to ensure that there is a space for staff and students to discuss their concerns around AI freely and hold University Executives accountable. We will continue to engage with the University on this topic and will keep advocating for students.

⚠️ Deadline Reminder ⚠️

If you consider yourself to be living with a disability- physical or mental- did you know you’re entitled to Reasonable Adjustments?

That could mean having more time to complete an assessment, assistive technology or a range of other additional support. But the sooner we or the University know, the better! The deadline this term is Mon 9th Nov.

This is particularly timely as tomorrow is - a reminder that mental health conditions count too! Anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism — these all qualify.
