The Hellenistic Peloponnese: New Perspectives “The Hellenistic Peloponnese: New Perspectives”; International PhD Conference held at the School of Archaeology & Ancient History, University of Leicester

“The Hellenistic Peloponnese: New Perspectives” is an one-day International PhD Conference organised by the School of Archaeology & Ancient History of University of Leicester. The aim of the conference is to gather PhD students and Early Career Researchers whose work or research interests involve the Hellenistic Peloponnese. They may be researching different areas of the region and challenge the traditional interpretations and/or offering new insights or methodological approaches. In particular, this conference aims:

1) to evaluate new methodological approaches which could be beneficial to the study of the past in the Hellenistic Peloponnese
2) to explore the ways in which Hellenistic states interacted and the extent of this interaction
3) to investigate how and to what extent the past was perceived in the Peloponnesian poleis
4) to assess the impact of external factors such as cultural exchanges and warfare on the Peloponnesian poleis
5) to examine internal and external social relationships and interactions: interactions of poleis with other poleis and/or states inside and outside of the Peloponnese

Thank you all for bearing with us! It's been a while! The book is now out. This is exciting!

It all started during a summer evening in 2016. It was only a small and vague idea. But, from something vague, yet potentially "original", especially in a world such as academia, where we find ourselves navigating the waters of uncertainty on a regular basis, we can work collaboratively and achieve results. This can only be done together in a team 👥👥👥👥and, as Dr Pagkalos pointed out, by persevering and trusting in each other's help 💡 It's been a long journey, but totally worth it! 🏆Thank you all!

We are very pleased to announce that the proceedings of the conference held at the University of Leicester have paved the way to a publishing contract with Bloomsbury Publishing.
The last few years have allowed us to work on the volume and gather feedback and insights into the topic. The volume is almost complete, and we are excited to share this news with you! We would like to thank all the people involved in this endeavour for their effort and we look forward to sharing more positive news with you.

We are pleased to announce that the organisers are now collecting and examining the abstracts of the papers delivered at the conference last May. This will lead to the creation of the edited volume of the conference.

"The Hellenistic Peloponnese: New Perspectives" Conference was a success. We would like to thank the speakers for their papers,the delegates for their lively participation, and you for your interest and support in this endeavor.

We are now exploring the possibility to publish the proceedings. This will eventually lead to an invaluable contribution, since the event was the first English conference whose main topic was the Hellenistic Peloponnese. Thanks again!

The Thomas Wiedemann Memorial Fund provides small grants (up to £100) to assist postgraduate students at UK universities with the cost of research travel and accommodation, including attendance at conferences.

Postgraduate students attending the conference from outside Leicester are encouraged to read the details on the website and consider making an application.
