WE WON AN AWARD!!!!

We won Collaboration of the Year for our self defence classes we held with ! Being nominated was an honour in itself but to win was the cherry on top of the cake.

Being President this year has been the most incredible experience of my life. All that we have achieved within the society, the SU and the university is astounding. Knowing how to defend yourself is such an important skill that everyone should know and winning an award for this event, I am so grateful that we are being recognised for it.

To my fellow committee members,

We did it!!! Ahhhhh! We all have put in so much work this year to make the society the best it could be and I want to thank each and every single one of you for all the hard work and dedication each of you has put in this year. All of you know what this society means to me and how much work I put into it this year! I can’t wait to see what happens next year and see all what you get up to. I love you all and thank you for the best year.

President, 23/24 ###

International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Today is Women in STEM Day! Today is all about celebrating the amazing work women and girls have contributed the world of STEM. The STEM world is highly male dominated with very few women having won a Nobel Prize for their work. Some women don’t even get acknowledged for their contributions to a particular field with their male colleagues getting recognition instead.

Let’s celebrate all the women who have helped the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

February is LGBTQ+ History Month. 2024 marks 50 years since the very first Pride March in Britain! The month is a celebration of the history of gay rights and related civil rights movements. It aims to strengthen the community and provide role models while also being a statement about the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to society.

It is heartbreaking that STILL in some countries it is illegal to be gay. It is illegal for people to openly be themselves and love who they want to. Join us this month to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and show support for everyone thinking of coming out, recently came out and those openly out and proud.

‘It is time to renew the battle for reproductive rights. We have been outmanoeuvred, outspent, and outvoted by a group of single-issue activists. It has taken them nearly two decades to turn back the principles of Roe. Let’s make sure it takes us a shorter time to replace protection for reproductive choice’ - Sarah Weddington
