🤗 Welcome Week is here! We hope you all have an amazing time getting to know each other and your new home here at Liverpool. 

Just think 5 years from now, or 6 if you choose to intercalate (which we highly recommend!) 😊 you’ll be graduating and reflecting back on a trunk load of accomplishments, milestones and happy memories.
 
🤔 What advice would you give to your first year self? Here’s what our graduates had to say. And don’t forget, “You’ve worked so hard to get here. Be deserving. Things will click. It’s very normal to feel like you don’t belong but you definitely do. So, well done.”

An insightful and inspirational afternoon with some fantastic organisations who are having a huge impact in our city region, not to mention in our student doctors’ learning journeys. 🦸 🦸‍♀️

From supporting people with disabilities to achieve their potential through sport to empowering women from all backgrounds to live equal and fulfilled lives, we're proud to partner with associations that are doing so much good – it’s no surprise that many of our students choose to continue working for these causes as volunteers beyond their time on placement.

Professor Andy McKeown and Dr Matt James, Supratheme Lead for Patient in the Community Setting, met painted a bright future at yesterday’s session for developing these relationships further within our curriculum, allowing more and more of our future doctors the opportunity to get a taste of the vital role they play in society.

A huge thank you for all you do for our students, patients and the city we call home. 👏

Widening Participation in Medicine

💙 At the end of last term, Y3 student doctor and BMA Widening Participation rep Roheel sat down with Prof McKeown to discuss routes into Medicine and widening access to the profession.

1️⃣ In Part 1, they discuss Prof McKeown's experience over his first year at the school, the importance of a varied workforce in public health & what is being done by the government to develop this.

2️⃣ In Part 2, they delve more deeply into how the University of Liverpool engages with this process and what support is available to students from WP backgrounds once they commence their studies.

💬 “I’ve seen a lot of change over the years…”

Earlier this year, we said goodbye to Justin Shanahan, one of our much-loved Clinical Skills Lecturers, as he began his retirement.

Justin was instrumental in helping establish our Clinical Skills Learning Zone — a space that has supported generations of students to practise, develop and take ownership of their clinical skills.

❤️ And this year, the Learning Zone celebrates 10 years.

So what better time to sit down with Justin for one final conversation?

From the story behind the Learning Zone to reflections on his career, Justin shares some memories from his time at the School — and perhaps a little wisdom for the students and colleagues following in his footsteps.
