Last week we hosted the 'If My Mouth Could Talk' exhibition, exploring the oral health needs of s*x workers and marking the launch of a new interdisciplinary research project led by Dr Janine Yazdi-Doughty and Dr Gemma Ahearne.

The exhibition brought together Dentistry and Criminology to highlight the urgent need to address oral health inequalities and improve access to care for s*x workers, while also challenging stigma in research, teaching and practice.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to all collaborators, participants and partners who contributed to this important work. 🙌

🌟 Through our Placement Scheme, second-year Law LLB (Hons) student Ethan Keeley recently completed a work placement with Womble Bond Dickinson UK LLP in Bristol.

During his time at the firm, Ethan gained hands-on experience, from legal research and drafting documents to contributing to real client work. He embraced every opportunity and developed valuable skills to support his future legal career.

We are proud to celebrate the appointment of our law alumnus, The Rt Hon Lord Justice Stephen Cobb, as President of the Family Division, one of the most senior judicial roles in England and Wales. 👏

A graduate of our LLB (Hons) programme in 1984 and recipient of an honorary LLD in 2019, Lord Justice Cobb has built a distinguished legal and judicial career spanning more than four decades.

As President of the Family Division, he will lead the work of the High Court’s Family Division and holds responsibilities including Head of Family Justice and President of the Court of Protection.

His appointment is an exceptional achievement and a source of great pride for the University of Liverpool, highlighting the continued impact of our graduates at the highest levels of the legal profession. ✨

Our team of qualified solicitors provides a free and confidential advice service for family law matters involving children. They are assisted by trained and supervised law students.

Our Law Clinic has submitted a formal response to the Government’s consultation on proposed reforms to the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) system.

Since 2018, the Liverpool Law Clinic has provided free legal advice to parents and carers of children and young people with SEND in Merseyside. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Drawing on casework and a survey of local families, the response raises concerns about accountability, school capacity and the practical implications of the proposals.

While welcoming the aim of improving outcomes, 96% of respondents said mainstream schools are not currently equipped to meet needs, and all raised concerns about removing the SEND Tribunal’s power to decide school placements.

📣 Our Clinic calls on the Government to consider the views of families with direct experience of the SEND system before finalising reforms.
