Hi everyone

The Marine Management Organisation has a number of paid graduate intern opportunities looking to be filled. If you have graduated (or are due to graduate this month) with a 2.1 or 1st, with over 70% on your dissertation, and a background in marine/environment science, this will be for you.

Internships are based in Newcastle, Liverpool, or Plymouth, so great locations.

Closing date 25th September 2024. See the attached for more details.

Good luck!

If you are a Masters student with an interest in how we might deal with oil spills, then this funding opportunity will be a great idea to consider:

One of our graduates worked with this organisation so certainly an opportunity to consider future careers within this sector as well

An exciting chance to be part of our ‘Bridging Research to Response’ endeavour is now available as we look to collaborate with UK-based students on a new research project either via a taught Masters plus research project or a focused MRes project.

Hi everyone

There are four positions currently advertised working with the Marine Management Organisation on some really exciting projects about improving decision-making to support a thriving marine environment.

These are great opportunities for early career scientists to work at the interface of research and policy implementation. They will work on research projects, but within the marine management organisation, so getting an opportunity to do really impactful work, whilst also experiencing working in the civil service. They will get to work with colleagues across the MMO’s conservation, fisheries management, planning and licensing teams, as well as with colleagues in Natural England, JNCC, Cefas and the Environment Agency. They will directly contribute to a programme of work that is bringing a natural capital approach into decision-making around England’s coasts and seas. They will learn how decisions are made, on what can and cannot occur in our marine environment, and will actively contribute to bringing a more complete understanding of the interdependencies of humans and the environment into that, to improve this going forward. These insights will be extremely valuable and act as a great springboard into careers either in civil service, or into an applied research context outside of civil service.

They are fixed term positions, advertised for a minimum of 18 months (with extension possible) and we would expect to get people in over the summer. They are suited to people with a keen interest in marine conservation and management, but could be filled by natural or social scientists (ideally we will recruit a mix of both). Candidates with experience of interdisciplinary working are strongly encouraged to apply, but this is not necessary.

Educated to Degree level in a relevant field, with some relevant experience preferable.: Evidence Specialist – Marine Natural Capital (Ref: 4151) - Civil Service Jobs - GOV.UK (https://bit.ly/3MgvUUU)

Educated to at least Masters level in a relevant field, with at least 5 years' experience working at postgraduate level (may include a PhD or working in a relevant research context): Senior Evidence Specialist – Marine Natural Capital (Ref: 4150) - Civil Service Jobs - GOV.UK (https://bit.ly/3NdIkwM)
