Students from our MSc Business Analytics and Big Data programme recently visited the Airbus site in Broughton, Chester as part of the professional learning and development section of their course

The students went on a two-hour tour of the A350 Wing Production Facility, a fantastic opportunity which gave them a first-hand glimpse into Airbusโ€™s assembly process and supply chain

Afterwards, members of the Airbus Team delivered an insightful talk on how Airbus harnesses the power of business analytics and big data to achieve greater performance - and offered career advice to students on opportunities available at Airbus

The visit to these two esteemed organisations provided an excellent opportunity for students to gain knowledge of Bloombergโ€™s advanced technology and operations as well as the cybersecurity protocols at Security HQ, a leading independent managed security service provider (MSSP).

Last Monday, the Management School kicked off our graduation events calendar by hosting a pre-graduation evening event for our Online Programmes graduands, which saw over 30 online students and their families visit the School from across the globe to meet their tutors, network, and tour the campus.

The event was a celebratory success - and marked the first time many of our Online Programmes students had met each other in-person!

The Management School recently hosted a two-day workshop for PhD students and academics focused on advancing knowledge of Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods in economics through sessions with expert researchers.

The Text-as-Data in Economicsโ€™ workshop aimed to:

The Management School's Accounting and Finance Group recently gathered world-leading experts from various institutions across the UK and abroad to share and examine the latest research developments in option contracts and trading

Led by Professor Alex Kostakis, the 'Liverpool Workshop in Option Markets' provided an excellent platform for scholars to share their latest papers and most recent discoveries in option markets, tackling a range of topics such as option returns, asset pricing, option traders, short-term reversal and stock returns

Reflecting on the event, Professor Kostakis said โ€œOur guests were impressed by the quality of the workshop and the expertise of our School in this research area as well as the city of Liverpool.. we hope we will be able to organise this workshop on a regular basis, establishing ULMS as a leading centre for research in option markets.โ€

The most recent Business Breakfast session looked at the delivery of hospice care and discussed how research undertaken by Professors of Marketing Philippa (Pippa) Hunter-Jones and Lynn Sudbury-Riley could be implemented across the health sector

With a focus on prioritising a 'person centred' approach across the patient journey, Helen Brown, CEO of Wirral Hospice St John's, highlighted her experiences of applying these research findings and the impact and outcomes at Wirral Hospice

There was ample discussion around patient and family experiences connected to the delivery of hospice care, and recommendations were shared on ways to facilitate improvements the service offered within hospice settings as well as ways to apply the โ€˜Trajectory Touchpoint Techniqueโ€™

Dr Anup Karath Nair, Dr Paul Ellwood and Dr Dhruba Borah from the Management School's Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship (SIBE) Group were recently invited to Chair a Track on "Technology and Business Models: Emergence, Evolution, Exaptation and Entanglement" at this year's R&D Management Conference

The conference, which took place at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm from 17-19 June, is an international event initiated in Manchester in 1980, which annually brings together academics and practitioners concerned with the study of R&D, technology management and innovation

This year's conference, attracting a record 670 delegates globally, explored how technology disrupts and transforms industries through innovation. The Track chaired by Dr Nair, Dr Ellwood, and Dr Borah examined how digitalisation, automation, electrification, and sustainability drive are driven by business model changes across various sectors

The Management School is proud to have recently hosted the second Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) PhD Summer School between 17-21 June

Organised by the School's OSCM research group and Centre for Supply Chain Research, this yearโ€™s Summer School was attended by 34 PhD students from 28 different universities across 10 countries - with over half of attendees coming from overseas

During the five-day Summer School, seven professors from the OSCM group, including Professors Tolga BektaลŸ, Zlatko Bodroลพiฤ‡, Tsan-Ming (Jason) Choi, Hugo Lam, Andrew Lyons, Jo Meehan and Dongping Song, delivered sessions covering different research topics and methodologies related to OSCM

They also served as mentors for PhD students attending the Summer School, arranging meetings with assigned mentees and providing advice on their research - the Summer School ended with a student research presentation competition, with 10 students winning different research awards

Staff and PhD students from the Management School's Accounting and Finance group recently participated as a sponsor in the 17th International Accounting & Finance Doctoral Symposium (IAFDS), held from June 16 to June 18 in Naples, Italy

Hosted by University of Naples โ€˜Parthenopeโ€™, this yearโ€™s symposium gathered doctoral students and academics from a diverse array of institutions across the globe - University of Liverpool Management School Professor Charlie Cai co-delivered a workshop on staff development, focusing on the integration of AI in research and teaching

Participants praised the symposium for its well-organized structure and the invaluable feedback received - one student noted "The one-on-one meeting is the strength of this conference... The comments received will give us the opportunity to add value to our work and hopefully get published."

๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Aditi Gupta, MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology Class of 2022 graduate, who recently won big at the University of Liverpool Staff Awards 2024, winning "Apprentice of the Year" for her graduate internship within the Careers & Employability department at the University of Liverpool!

As a recent international graduate, Aditi witnessed first-hand the kind of barriers international students face in securing their first job role in the UK. Her role involved helping international students with their employability journey in the UK (and abroad) post-graduation.

This award recognized her efforts to improve the employability experience for international students at Liverpool, developing the International+ offer at Careers and Employability.

The Management School's Centre for Sustainable Business held its second in-person Summer Conference on Thursday 13 June, with the theme 'Full, Fair, and Honest ESG Communication'

The event looked at the growing legal and social pressures facing organisations to share their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices - and asked if such transparency can result in reputational damage and negative market reactions, and how these communications can foster trust and drive meaningful change

The conference was held by CSB Director Professor Jo Meehan and featured a range of keynote speakers, roundtable discussions from CSB academics and a creative session highlighting the power of visual storytelling
