Recently, BA History of Art and Museum Studies final-year students at Liverpool John Moores University enjoyed visiting the Rathbone Ceramic Studio and Gallery, where they learned how to make and decorate their own pieces of pottery! We are looking forward to seeing the final results when they are fired and ready to display!

It was so lovely yesterday evening to see graduated former student from BA History of Art and Museum Studies at Liverpool John Moores University, Isabelle Hetherington. We were both attending the private view of the new exhibition at the World Museum, Liverpool, which is 'Wings of the Sea'- an exhibition of the intangible cultural heritage of Shanghai.

Isabelle graduated from the course in 2014 and now works at National Museums Liverpool as a conservator. Indeed, she was Lead Conservator for this very exhibition, and did much work on the installation! It is inspiring to see what Isabelle has achieved in her career following her degree. During her degree, Isabelle completed placements at Chatsworth House and at Liverpool Record Office, and clearly all of these experiences, plus her excellent degree result, have come together to ensure her great career. Congratulations, Isabelle, and it was lovely to catch up! 😊

Wiktoria Maslinska, who is a final-year student on the Liverpool John Moores University BA History of Art & Museum Studies course, has just returned from a month in Venice. Wiktoria has been the second recipient this year to undertake our competitive and prestigious Peggy Guggenheim Collection Fellowship. We are the only undergraduate course in the world to offer this special opportunity to students! Wiktoria commented:

"It feels like a month at Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice has definitely broadened my horizons. I have met many wonderful people from all around the world and every day at the gallery brought some great memories, as well as invaluable skills. It was truly bliss to be surrounded by all the masterpieces, especially of Max Ernst and Leonora Carrington. In general, I think that this internship has made me grow as a person, and for this I am most grateful."

Wishing the wonderful Janet Holmes, creator of the Rathbone Ceramic Studio and Gallery, a long and and happy retirement. We have so many happy memories of the times we all spent making sgraffito pots, with your calm guidance to encourage us. We are looking forward to going forward with Zara, our third year students booked in for the new semester, but will miss you loads 🥰

It was so lovely for the course leader of Liverpool John Moores University BA History of Art & Museum Studies to catch up with final-year student, Leia Birchall, in Venice this last weekend! Emma, who was there to visit the Venice Biennale exhibitions, met up with Leia, as Leia is conducting a one-month internship at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. This internship is offered to two students each year and is built into our course. We are the only undergraduate course in the world to have the internship with the Guggenheim Museum!
It was also an opportunity to meet the new staff member at the museum who is our course contact. This is Alison D'Ercole, who is also pictured.
As Leia's internship coincides with the Venice Biennale, which happens every two years, she is bound to have the most amazing month in Venice!

Many congratulations to the BA History of Art and Museum Studies students who graduated from Liverpool John Moores University yesterday at Liverpool Cathedral! You have all gained many real-world work experiences due to the placements and internships you have undertaken on the course, so this will now set you ahead for your futures!

We also wish to congratulate two of the course tutors, Dr. Gabriela Saenger Silva and Dr. Jon Hoskins, who both received their Ph.D.s on the same day. It was truly a day of celebrations!

Exploring Identity & Change: Our students curate a powerful Exhibition at Liverpool Women’s Hospital

Students from BA (Hons) History of Art and Museum Studies have curated a provocative exhibition blending photography and text that examines how ethnicity can shape the experience of menopause

This new exhibition at Liverpool Women’s Hospital is a collaboration between History of Art Course at Liverpool John Moores University and The Centre for Ageing and the Life Course at University of Liverpool.

The Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University, Nisha Katona MBE, recently took much time out of her very busy schedule to visit our BA History of Art & Museum Studies Degree Show 2026 at the John Lennon Building. She spent such a long time viewing all the students' work, asked many questions, and was a most delightful guest at our exhibition.

Congratulations to the final-year BA History of Art and Museum Studies students at Liverpool John Moores University for the opening of their degree show recently! This exhibition is the culmination of three years of learning. On the evening, we heard speeches by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark Power, and Director of the School of Art and Creative Industries, Professor Rachel McLean. We were also honoured by the presence of Mr. Mike Parker, LJMU Chair of the Board of Governors, who spent much time during the evening with the students in our exhibition space.
To complete the evening, several students won prizes. Congratulations go to Adrianne Grant, Cerys Morris, Alex Hurst, Eva Teal, Simon Walthew, Rhiannon Sage and Natalie Billington!
