Odd Arts visited on Thursday last week to deliver their interactive play/workshop on Radicalisation. Students and staff really enjoyed it, top quality acting and also excellent for helping students spot the early signs of radicalisation and how to help friends most vulnerable to this at this early stage. Our students even had to take part when they suggested how a friend could have helped earlier!

Check out what they offer- highly recommended!

Gwyn Jones from PM Group helped create three Industry Projects for year 12 to complete. Work commitments meant he could not attend the presentation day, but we were happy to invite Gwyn in the week after to see the three projects he helped set. It was a joy to watch the work of our 16-17 year olds, already showing extremely high skills and employability! Thanks Gwyn for your efforts in creating this experience for them, and for giving them a good insight in the Q&A afterwards.

Our year 12 students presented their industry project solutions to judges last week, we were so impressed with what they shared. We had projects from the PM group, Avalanche Studios Group and Yozu. We had visiting judges who not only enjoyed the presentations, they also helped students practise their networking over lunch, it was truly an amazing day, we were so proud and impressed by our students.

Visitors were Paul Davies, our Enterprise Advisor for Yozu, Emily Robson from Knowledge Quarter, Gaz Wainwright and Jonas Dewanckel from Avalanche Studios Group, Serge Patrick-Heselton from Clixels, Matt Wilson from an exciting new post 18 option The Game Assembly UK. Thanks you so much for all your efforts on the day and we look forward to future collaborations.

Gwyn Jones from PM Group is visiting to see projects he set up later today.

One focus with our sixth formers is to fully prepare them for successful careers in STEM.

At the start of the week we had students practising networking, a very useful employability skill. Using a session from accountancy firm Azets from a recent visit, students were given advice on how to do this. Then they tried it. At the end of the week some year 12s tried their new skills with visitors from industry, more to follow on this event. Keep posted!

Another full week in our sixth form! We have plenty to share from this week we are just catching up!

Year 13 were completing a practical investigating electromagnetic induction. First using a magnet falling through a coil, then using and alternating magnetic field from a large flat coil through a smaller coil at different angles of rotation.

Have a great weekend all!

It was a pleasure to welcome Alison McGovern, Member of Parliament for Birkenhead, to our sixth form recently. Alison met students from her constituency and from other areas of the Wirral. Students gave talks on some of their recent projects including the Leidenfrost effect and analysing the sea bed off the coast of the UK using computing power.

We shared our work in outreach to schools across the region, including Birkenhead Park School. We work to support students, both in their schools and in activities at our school, to help them succeed wherever they choose to study STEM subjects after year 11. We have a large focus on those from disadvantaged groups and support them to achieve well.

We look forward to taking all of our year 12 students to London in February to visit universities and have a tour of Parliament. We are able to take all students thanks to the kind support of the Garnett Family who help those with financial difficulty who might otherwise have not been able to participate.

The most recent Inversity Challenge saw more success for our students! Ollie won by just one point, with Yaw in second. Both did some wonderful work looking at how to halt epidemics. Inversity has really raised the employability skills of those who take part. Well done to you both!
