Join us in Aeronautics on 11 March as we celebrate International Women’s Day with an inspiring seminar featuring Dr. Irene Tartaruga on “Career, development and growth – finding your balance in society”.

Dr. Tartaruga, a distinguished aerospace engineer and researcher, will share her journey in the field of aeronautics, highlighting her experiences in academia and industry. With a background spanning Sapienza University of Rome, University of Bristol, Siemens, and Airbus, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the discussion.

🚀 🏆 An astronomical win from engineering students Liam Donnelly (Aeronautics) and Ellie Abel (Materials) at the Airbus Student Space Competition!⁣

Ellie and Liam’s novel reusable Lunar Landing Pads offer a game-changing solution for future lunar exploration, with advanced design features focused on erosion reduction, thermal shock prevention and adaptable manufacturing processes.⁣

Their success marks the third consecutive win of the competition by individuals from Imperial College London 🥇

Imperial students, Liam and Ellie, are awarded first place for their proposal outlining manufacture and assembly of landing pads on the Moon.

Dr Sebastian Eastham's research on the viability of supersonic passenger flight has recently been featured on the front page of Aerospace America magazine.

Using simulations, the team intricately modelled the global atmosphere's response to supersonic fleets, highlighting the need for delicate balance between technological progress and environmental sustainability.
