From dissecting monetary policy reports to exploring the systems behind modern finance, here’s a closer look at what we do at the LSESU Central Banking Society. 🏦📊

As the UK’s first university society dedicated to the research and strategy of central banks, we bring together students interested in monetary policy, financial stability, and research & strategy. Our two Research Divisions: Monetary Policy Research and Financial Research give you the space to produce original academic work, debate contested policy questions, and dig into real-world case studies on reserve management and macroprudential policy.

Beyond research, our events are designed to get you exposure and connections: speaker events with figures like Silvana Tenreyro, Dave Ramsden, Simon Bullers, and Sir Charles Bean, professional development workshops.

It all builds towards our flagship event: the Research Symposium, where teams present their original papers to a judging panel of leading economists.

We were delighted to welcome Professor McMahon for an insightful session drawing on his extensive experience in academia and policy-making 🎓
Guest Speaker Session — Professor Michael McMahon ✍️

Provided valuable perspectives on macroeconomic research, central bank communication, and the intersection of academic work with real-world policy. His experience at the Bank of England and role on the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council offered a unique lens into modern economic challenges.

We also explored his contributions to leading research networks such as the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the Centre for Macroeconomics, as well as his involvement with the Royal Economic Society.

A huge thank you to Professor McMahon for sharing his expertise and inspiring our members with insights from both cutting-edge research and policy practice 🙏
