Influencer marketing continues to evolve in unexpected ways, including the rise of social media pet stars shaping brand engagement and digital economies.

Dr Sevil Yesiloglu, Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Queen Mary University of London, recently shared her expertise on ITV Tonight, contributing to a feature exploring how pet influencers are generating income and reshaping marketing practices.

Drawing on her research, Dr Yesiloglu highlights how value is created across a complex ecosystem of creators, brands, platforms and audiences and why authenticity, relatability and emotional connection remain central to engagement. The programme also considers key challenges around commercialisation and transparency in this rapidly developing space.

This contribution reflects how research at Queen Mary is informing wider conversations about contemporary business and society.

The School of Business and Management marked the conclusion of this year’s SBM Mentoring Programme with a celebration event at the Graduate Centre.

Over seven months, 90 participants – student mentees alongside mentors from industry – built meaningful connections, shared expertise and supported one another’s development.

The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the impact of these partnerships, from growing confidence and career clarity among students to the insight and leadership offered by mentors. Outstanding contributions across the mentoring community were also recognised.

The SBM Mentoring Programme remains a key part of our commitment to supporting students to achieve their potential and prepare for their future careers.

The Queen Mary Social Venture Fund (QMSVF) Pitch Competition 2026 brought together more than 150 students, founders and members of our community to share ideas and explore solutions to real-world challenges. Now in its sixth year, the programme supports student-led ventures that use business to create positive social impact. This year’s finalists presented innovative approaches across healthcare, sustainability and community wellbeing.

Congratulations to Dotplot, co-founded by Debra Babalola and Shefali Bohra, who were awarded £15,000 to support the development of their AI-powered breast healthcare tool.

We also recognise the contribution of all finalist teams - Air Aware Labs, Arcus Dental, Harker, Nattura, Orbion Connect and The Canerow Company - and thank our judging panel for their expertise and thoughtful feedback.

This milestone reflects the ongoing commitment of our students to using business as a force for good.

Rina Ademi, a Chevening Scholar originally from Kosovo, shares her experience studying MSc Global Business and Sustainability at Queen Mary University of London.

"I have really enjoyed the guest speakers our professors have brought into the course. Hearing directly from practitioners and seeing how the concepts we learn in class play out in real organisations has been one of the highlights of the programme. It’s also been amazing to meet and connect with people who are already working in the fields we’re studying - it makes the learning feel much more practical, relevant, and inspiring."
