🎾✨ Highlights from our very first KCL Ortho Soc x KCL Tennis event!

We brought together orthopaedics and tennis for an evening packed with insight and inspiration.

🦴 Our opening talk by Trauma & Ortho Head at King’s, Mr Osman Khan, explored the most common tennis injuries and, crucially, how to prevent them.

📚 ST3 Mr Mike Ward then walked us through the journey to becoming an orthopaedic surgeon, offering invaluable advice for aspiring medics.

🌍 We were also honoured to host a special guest from the US, a spine surgeon and world-leading expert on Bertolotti syndrome, who delivered a fascinating deep dive into the condition.

🎾 To close the night, former UK No.1 and Top-15 Europe tennis player Dilhan Wasantha sat down with our president Saheb for an exclusive interview, sharing his tennis journey and how Bertolotti syndrome impacted his career.

An evening that was both educational and inspiring for sports enthusiasts and medical students alike. 🔥

What is surgery/orthopaedics in the USA actually like? 🇺🇸

We’re delighted to welcome Dr Robert Beer, MD, a US Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon with over 20 years of experience, for a talk on his career journey and what life as a surgeon in the United States is really like, from training through to practice.

Dr Beer previously served as a surgeon in the US Navy and brings a unique perspective on surgical careers across different healthcare systems. This talk will be of interest to anyone curious about surgery and training in the USA, regardless of specialty or stage.
